Yes! Not my first or second choice (Furnald, John Jay singles), but as an accepted waitlistee who submitted housing forms like 1.5 months late, I'm just ecstatic I didn't get my last choice dorm.

Columbia '09, post your housing assignments here when you get them!

I'm on the 8th floor (I hope I get a nice view).

I'm not sure I understand the meaning of a "suite." Does that mean that the door to my single room connects to a common room, which includes a bathroom and kitchen?

Okay, so I got a Furnald single. It was my first choice...but I don't know if I want it.

Furnald is a nice place to live, I've heard (and this was the impression I got from the visit) - it's air conditioned and has kitchens and whatnot - but I'm also concerned about the fact that it's really antisocial. All the doors were closed when I visited, and people don't seem to really fraternize much.

I put John Jay Single as my second choice, because John Jay seemed really open and social, but there were still lots of singles, and now I'm starting to think that perhaps it should have been my first choice.

Any advice? Is there some way to trade rooms or something? Should I stick with Furnald?

yeah wallach is an assortment of single/double rooms with doors into a lounge with bathroom and kitchen

hartley is the same except there are two floors with a ladder-style staircase between, a lounge per floor, either a small bathroom or a medium bathroom per floor, one kitchen

bathrooms in hartley-wallach are coed

I'm gonna learn how to cook lots of good things so I can use the kitchen to its full potential

What columbia should do for suite people with kitchens is to give students contact info for the suite-mates so that the suite doesn't end up with like 8 coffee makers

John Jay 7 right here. I lived in Wallach over the summer last year. I really did enjoy it because the bathrooms are far more private and you get to meet a lot of people quickly. Plus the private 10 person kitchen is a real added benefit.

John Jay was my first choice though. All freshman makes it far more appealing in my case.

hey toasterking
hey! i'll switch with you! are we allowed to do that? i have a single on john jay floor 8 and i umm, i hate people and things, we should do it.

people always say its anti social but u can have friends in other dorms and chillwith them and thn just got back to ur room when u want peace and quite at least thats how i see it... plus the social dorms look like crap .. like prison cells and the ones in furnals looked great.
