Does the Academy update the webpage that shows your application status daily? And how long after you send stuff in do they acknowledge on the website what stuff they actually have? I have been checking it daily now, and it has been like a week+ since I sent everything out. Also, does anyone know if they put any other info on there besides grades, nomination status, and personal info (name and stuff like that)

wow... last year they didn't have any of that stuff... i had to call the admissiosn office to see if they got any of my stuff

They don't update the webpage daily. I think its more often than weekly, but if you you only sent it in a little over a week ago I wouldn't worry. I had to call because it looked like the lost my transcript, when it really just took them a long time to enter it into the computer.

On a similar note, the DoDMERB website however is updated constantly through out the day.

From what it seems...they update on tuesdays. At least for me that has been the pattern. It can definetly take a while for stuff to get on there. My ACT took over a month.

Actually, this morning, I tried to log onto the website at like 8:30 or 9 and it said that it was "synchronizing data with USAFA". It also said that they do it every business day for 45 mins from like 7-8:15 Mountain time, so I guess this means that they do update it everyday, just not for everyone.

The 45 days doesn't really mean anything, I got my candidate packet like September or something and only turned the last essays in the week before it was due. But I'm a terrible procrastinator, so turn it in early.

Ya'lls competition might be a little tougher than the class of '09 was, because there are too many of us here, so they might cut back this year, but don't worry it won't be too drastic.

clsoar - that's exactly what the ALO told my son. The class of '09 is so large that the class of '10 might be smaller than average. He also mentioned something about the glut of officers in the AF and force shaping and all of that. He just wanted to give an accurate picture.

What say you?

I think it's true that there's too many of us... we started with 1380 at the start of basic and ended with 1300, losing a lot less than they thought we would. had to move freshmen between squads because of it (which must've sucked). Not sure why they let so many of us in, but I'm definitely not complaining! I wasn't accepted until April...hehe...tip about that: DoDMERB can really screw you over if you let it! fought'em right down to the wire...

This is true, the AF Times has many articles about there being 4000 plus to many Lts. We have a friend with D in pilot training, she was told you wash out. You are out.

tip about that: DoDMERB can really screw you over if you let it! fought'em right down to the wire...

Actually i kinda got screwed by DoDMERB but it was the overbooking of the class of 09 that really screwed me over. What happened was i got medically DQd. When i applied for a waiver, it was not even processed because i was not the most competitive person in my nomination category.

I argued "Well, don't candidates then go into a nationwide pool?" They said yes but since they were overfilling they were not doing that. As a result i never even got to the final selection board. My actual "selection" was a person who took the application in her own hands and decided i wasnt competitive, not allowing me to truely compete (bitter).

So this year i started with the waiver/rebuttle process immediately before nominations are even out. However, That was back in July. Its october and DoDMERB has not done a thing. As you said "fight them to the wire..." I am. I call at least twice a week as well as leave messages with as many people as i can (most wont return my calls).

Fortunatly my medical status will be cleared in January (12 months off Paxil) so i should be good then, but i want my medical waivered so i can try for early appointment/LOA.

hey snipper, did you get a nomination? If you got a nomination shouldn't they consider your file then? It looks as if I may have to get a waiver. DODMERB claims I have flat feet, althought I know that I don't. I have a very minor foot problem though, but it shouldn't be enough to be disqualified. I am sending in a rebuttal this week, but I have no idea if I am the most qualified in my nomination pool. If I'm not the most competitive am I in trouble?

Yeah i had a nomination from my congressman. Therefore even though i may not have been the most competitive person from his category, i still should have been allowed to compete among that national pool.

As far as being in trouble if you are not the most competitive it depends on alot. First of all how your congressman ranks his/her nominees. There are three ways:

Unranked: You congressman gives each nominee to the academy with no particular order: The selection panel determines who they want.

Primary with Unranked: This means the congressman says there is one person s/he really wants to get the appointment and under most circumstances, they do. If for some unknown reason they dont get the appointment, then its just like unranked. The remaining are considered equally.

Primary with ranks: If the primary doesnt get the appointment, the person who the congressman (their selection board) determined the next competitive gets the appointment and so on down the line.

I think unranked is the most fair because the people are selected by whom the ACADEMY determines, not some people the congressman hired (which are usually former cadets so i dont discredit them).

The primary with ranks put the appointment power technically in the congressman's selection board.

SOO.... to answer your question:

If you are not the most competitive you SHOULD still have a shot at an appointment.

However in my case, my ultimate future with the academy last year was determined by some woman at a desk who though i was not the most competitive and should not get the medical waiver (again, i'm quite bitter). Even my counselor, ALO and some other person at the academy said that wasnt how it should have happened. Unfortunatly it was part my fault, i was a bit passive and late with everything.

Which is why this year i am far more active doing everything and staying on top of everyone.

Wow, i really beat this to bloodly pulp. - If you need to deal with DoDMERB - DONT LET THEM SLEEP! Call them as often as you can to check status, get information and ask questions. Keep a record of when you called, what you were told and who you spoke with.

Contrary to popular beleif, the people at DoDMERB are VERY friendly people and are willing to help. Just remember to be friendly with them,

Go sox.

Edit: If i am wrong on anything here (particularly about the nomination style, please correct me).

Nothemomma- We currently have 1290 in the class of '09. That's quite a bit. I've heard a little about force shaping, an email here or there. I don't think it's too big of a deal yet. It seems there is always talk of budget cuts and such, so it might be a consideration when we graduate.

Our class also had a lower than normal applicant pool, it might be even smaller this year, because support for the war in Iraq is dwindling. So maybe that will balance things.

clsoar - I had heard that this past summer seminar had 400 or so in each session - when it used to be about 300 or so. Was wondering if AFA is anticipating a drop in applicants and wanted to expose more kids to the Zoo via SS.

One word for the high retention in '09 - Chipotle.

I sent you a private message with a question.

I didn't hear anything about the summer seminar, of course I was in basic and lost to the rest of the world. I have read about a decrease in applicants to most of the academies, so it is probably a concern.

Chipotle, oh yeah. ZoomieNet saves lives!

We ate at Chipotle like 3 times in 2 days during son's first visit to AFA. So we were way ahead of the curve when one finally opened in our home town. Now it's only 3 times a week....

Chipotle rocks. I haven't been to it in a while, hum, I think I know tomorrow's dinner!
