Medical Exam/Candidate Kits

For the class of 2013, how early does anyone think one will recieve the candidate kits and how early can one take the Medical Exam?

Look for it mid June, thts when I got mine...

Umm got my postcard from DoDMERB early July and scheduled my tests for end of July, got results late August I believe...

Get it all done ASAP if you think youre competetive for an LOA, I am a procrastinator, and it got harder to do once school and sports started.. ;)

Thanks. Thing is I won't be home at all from the end of June till end of August. I may not be as competative as many other candidates but I am very determined.

af16 is spot on.. look for "candidate kits" (postcards tellin you to go to the same site to see your application) in june.. get everything done as soon as you can, DoDMERB postcards in july, try to tak ethe exams in late july if you can.. it's possible to get your stuff in before school if you try. you may wanna go ahead and get 3 teachers' email addresses before summer (english, math, other)

I see. Okay thanks. I will call the academy and see what they say.

Don't worry if you're gone in the summer either, I was gone from late June (summer seminar) till late August the summer before my senior year, but using e-mail to talk to my mom and teachers, I managed to have everything but the CFA and the secondary exam I had to do for DODMERB (I got a remedial for something, I don't really even know what it meant) done before school started.

Ok, do candidate kits go out to people which are not competitive because my scores aren't good right now but they will be after the June 14 ACT test and the the people which did the SS application dont have to do the Pre Q right if im not mistaking and would my SS ALO be the same as my is the same as the Academy one.

If I'm not quite mistaken, your ALO is the same. Unless you move.

The "kits" are all online, I'm pretty sure...if you get in to SS, it just means that the info they have on you is finished and you don't have to do it again on your application.

Oh, Needle's right...I guess there's supposed to be a postcard. (That'd make sense. I didn't get one, but I came home right after SS and started filling out forms. Actually, I haven't gotten a lot of things everyone else did ;) )

Do candidates recieve the "kits" only when there SAT scores are qualifying?
I got the Summer Leaders Seminar rejection from West Point that said " After i re-evaluate your file with your most recent SAT or ACT scores, DODMERB may contact you with scheduling information for a medical examination in your local area sometime this summer."

that's what it sounds like. i think you only get the postcard w/ the web address on it if you're deemed competitive by your PCQ (precandidate questionaire)

I see. Well I did not fill out the PCQ, I filled out the AFA Summer Seminar Application, which I have not heard from yet.

ah okay, well once you hear about that, you'll be set. if you're "competitive", you'll get that postcard in june or so.

Well they have more than just my SAT scores. For the Summer Seminar Application you need to send a resume. Can they deem me competative by that alone? My scores right now are 460 M and V. I'm taking the SAT's again in May and June and the ACT's in April and in June. Hopefully, (I pray to God) they will be qualifying. I'm also praying that I get into the AFA Summer Seminar. I got accepted to the Naval Academy Summer Seminar though. =D

If you look on the admissions page they tell you exactly what scores are need for "competitive"

[quote]
Students who score below 580 verbal and 560 math on the SAT I and below 24 English/reading and 25 math/science reasoning on the ACT normally will not be competitive for an appointment.

So you need to hit the books

Yep. I will. Looks like the USAFA SS is pretty set on letting people know about thier acceptance to the SS on what it said on the website. I haven't heard anything about early acceptance. I called them and they haven't even made the selections yet.

I don't know if there is a seperate regional for SS, if not, you need to remember they only closed their application file on Sat. for the class of 12, and since that was a Sat., they didn't get down to work until Monday, and then the boards need to meet, thus, they are a little busy with getting the appts out. They state that about 90% get their appt in Mar. They try to have the majority done by the 15th knowing that many candidates must put deposits down for univ. by then. Figure that is about 1600 candidates that they review in 2 weeks, adding in candidates with up to 4 noms, they are actually making a puzzle.

I am sure you will hear about kids before you, don't worry, some of these kids could be shining stars that might be recruited for sports, so the AFA want to bring them out for other reasons.

Last year, the USAFA Summer Seminar Application = Pre Candidate Questionnaire.

Probably the same for this year as well.

SS acceptance/rejection letters are going out later this year then last year. I think my son heard in mid-March last year.

USAFA web site says this year's notices won't go out until first week of April.
