Governor's School?

I will drop PGSET, so there’s going to be at least 1 spot open for the waitlisted.

Our grade is extremely competitive to be honest.

@doldrum At my school the current 11th grade is not that competitive. The 9th grade, however, is insane!

I just received an acceptance packet from PGSS; apparently they received extra funding and were able to accommodate 6 more kids, which was enough to get me off the waitlist. I assume 6 new people have been invited to the waitlist.
That packet was mailed on Monday and reached today

@Mjag1898 Still no decision, I just emailed PGSS and will hopefully hear back soon.

@doldrum Just got the acceptance packet today (finally)!

Only 54 students were selected, according to my letter (up from 48?). Congratulations to all accepted. To all rejected, it is not the end of the world. Schools like PGSS and RSI are much more selective than the colleges they are held at. It is sad that they only have limited spots in the programmes.

When is the deadline to reply back for those who got accepted? I am asking because I got waitlisted and was wondering what my chances are of getting off the waitlist.

@jamanda The deadline is April 25.

If you got waitlisted to PGSET, you will likely get accepted, as many get into both PGSS and PGSET. However, if you are waitlisted to PGSS, then chances of you getting off are extremely slim. Basically, the chance that one accepts PGSS upon acceptance is so high that you have to pray that someone incorrectly submits forms.

Another possibility is that PGSS receives some last minute funding and takes in more students off the waitlist, but 6 already got bumped to acceptance, so this seems unlikely.

someone from my school may reject pgss to go to some other less-prestigious-money-costing camp (idk why lol)

@doldrum I think it is probably at some high level university. I would tell him not to do it. Some places like Stanford Summer cost $10000 and do not help at all with your application: it is just a way for colleges to make money.

Also, someone else from your school got into PGSS? I’m the only one from my school; I thought they only took up to one per school.

They take 2 from each IU, but coincidentally, for the past two years, two students have been chosen from my school. (even though the magnet school [where you go?] has all the good kids).

revive.
