Are there any GPA Cutoffs for admissions to USNA. I am curious, if a 3.5 GPA coming in from another college is good for academy standards.

I can only give you anecdotal information but: Yes, I do know applicants appointed to USNA from college who had a GPA of less than 3.5. The most important thing is probably the type and quality of the classes: Calc, Chem, Physics, etc. -- you don't necessarily have to have an "A" in these classes if it looks like you've tackled a rigorous program.

GPA isn't everything, because I moved to a new school this year being my senior year, the school will not give me a GPA or class rank. I have turned in my application without these, and was told that they do not have as much weight as most would think

High school and college are different. I would think for high school, SAT and GPA would be most important criteria for admission but for college students, college GPA would be heavily referred since it shows their most recent performance and it demonstrates their ability to gauge post-secondary work. It probably gives them the best estimte of your academic performance in the USNA. edemboi75, I think your 3.5 is fine provided that you had rigorous course load and higher grades in Math/Sciences.

ALL (meaning high school and college candidates) are judged based on the amount of points they score (candidate multiple score, plus points given out by the Admissions Board after review of one's file).

For college students the MOST important item is the college GPA. There is a sliding scale, which awards different amounts of points, depending on one's GPA (I have no exact idea of how many). Additionally, for just reapplying there are bonus points (again, I am not sure how many). SAT's are factored in but very very lightly. Additionally, ECA's/Sports from high school AND college are looked at. Being involved in any sort of activity at college IS IMPORTANT! Everything else is the same as the HS process (except DODMERB possibly).

From college, a 3.5 GPA is very good. However, you need to be taking about 17-18 credit hours (of course a little more is good, too) and similar course to plebe year, if not further advanced.

As always, you can contact me at jadler989901 on AIM/AOL if you (or anyone else) have any questions.

Good luck!

I apparently got in at West Point with a 2.66 GPA from Washington and Lee.

skirbyy, do you mean that Washington and Lee university is one of the military schools? I didn't know that. Thought they were liberal arts.

I think he means that he got 2.66 GPA at a civilian college (Washington and Lee) which was good enough to get him an admission offer at West Point as a college student.
