GPA destroyed, ideas??

I posted here last year (tenth grade) panicking about my GPA, because I was doing poorly in all of my classes. Besides one class that I got an A in, I got a mix of Cs and Bs and possibly one D (I don't know how the multiple quarters/tests comboed in the end). One of the classes I took and got a C in was an AP class, and I got a 4 on the exam. This year so far I am doing much better with something in the A range for all my classes besides AP USH II (I am doing terribly) and AP chem (I am doing not so well). My GPA fell since last year, so I assume that history is destroying me, though obviously I need to do better in chem. My school uses a weird GPA system (I can't tell if it up to 5 or 6???) so hearing about other people's GPAs doesn't really mean much to me. However it seems that my GPA is at the absolute bottom of the pile among students that take AP classes. I am now extremely nervous. Can I even get into any good schools?? I have the terrible feeling that every place I apply to is going to reject me. :( Do I have any hope? If not are there any schools that are very geeky/nerdy but that I have a good chance of getting into? (I want to major in either math, physics, or computer science.)

What are you doing in AP classes if you can’t handle them?

Your chances are very slim, but I’m more worried about what you actually learned. Do you feel like you learned the material in your classes adequately enough?

Anyways, your chances at top schools are low. Though there are tons of other good schools out there. You don’t really give much to go on, though. A lot depends on your extracurricular activities, test scores, and awards/honors. Maybe with that information you’d get more detailed responses.

Keep trying though! Do your best in your classes you can this semester. Junior year is a critical year in college admissions.

honestly you haven’t given me enough conrete information to be able to offer you an opinion… go get some facts, and come back. for example:

What exactly is your GPA on a converted 4.0 scale?
What is your class rank?
What is your school profile: i.e. % that go on to 4 year colleges, % that go to Ivy, Top 50, etc.

You can always go to a community college for a bit and then transfer up. It may not seem too appealing, but it’s certainly worth tossing out there.

Also, try using the college search engine on collegeboard.com (after converting your GPA). Most people on this site will not be a huge help if you aren’t looking at schools in the top 50 (which you very likely won’t be).
