My first three years of high school, I took a total of 4 APs and 11 honors classes, plus electives, with a weighted GPA of 97.3 (somewhere in the mid 90s unweighted) This year, as a senior, I’m taking 5 APs and my GPA has taken a huge hit. Unweighted, I ended 1st Semester with an 89 in AP chem, 85 in AP French, 94 in AP Econ, 99 in AP Lit and… a 71 in AP Calculus BC. I just sent mid year reports to my colleges, and I wonder how badly these grades will hurt me. Given, these are harder classes than last year’s, but I also have a bit of senioritis holding back that Calc grade. I applied to a mix of schools, some state schools, some LACs, and three Ivies . I have 2270 SAT, 34 ACT and subject tests in the low- mid 700. In all honesty, have I lost my chance at schools like Cornell and Middlebury?
I think the schools will have figured this out. It’s very possible you’ve sunk that boat, but there’s no way for us to know. I wouldn’t give up now.
I think you still have a chance, but I would say that the senioritis doesn’t help. As a senior, I am certainly feeling it start to kick in, but my midterms ended up being substantially higher than my other three years (taking 5 aps), so I am pretty sure colleges won’t accept having senioritis as a good excuse.
