GPA plummeted after transfering from community college. Is there anything I can do?

This summer I will be graduating from community college with an associates of science, and I will be transferring to a state university this fall. My cumulative GPA at the community college is a 2.99. But my new school says my GPA is a 2.46.

My first year of college in 2011-2012 was a huge mistake, and I had a GPA around 1.8. After I changed my major a few times, and took a semester off, I was at a 2.0. I changed my major to computer science in 2014, and haven’t made below a B since. I was finally close to getting a 3.0 average, but now it seems like it will be impossible to get to a 3.0.

I was really hoping to get an internship this year, since I would have a somewhat decent GPA, but now I feel all hope is lost. Is their anything I should do to make sure this new GPA calculation is correct? Is their someone I should talk to?

I’ve tried talking to my academic advisor about it, but he hasn’t been very helpful; it has been very hard to communicate with him, especially since I don’t currently live in the same city as the school.

As far as resumes go, you’ll list your schools separately, with a GPA for each. So the 2.99 should be on there. You would probably be justified in not listing the previous GPA – not sure what field you’re in, but in engineering I’ve been advised to leave GPA off a resume if it’s lower than 2.75 or so.

On a resume you have that flexibility, so if you’re applying to internships that way, you’re fine. Online applications might force you to put in a GPA, though, and may or may not have multiple spots to split it up. You’ll have to deal with those on a case-by-case basis.
