GPA problems

I am a bit new to the college search thing (i'm a junior) and it looks like i have a pretty low GPA compared to others applying at emory and schools like duke, cornell.

Can strong SATs, a good essay and good ECs and Recs make up for a lackluster GPA of 3.5?

Also, does anyone know anything specifically about Oxford of Emory...how are the median grades of the students there

Im looking to do pre med so any specific help as to what kind of GPAs are attained at Oxford of Emory would be awesome. :)

3.5 UW btw.

Thanks guys.

And when i say good GPA i mean like a 2200 - 2300.

SAT******* my bad :)

“Can strong SATs, a good essay and good ECs and Recs make up for a lackluster GPA of 3.5?”

the short answer is yes.

But your school, course load, and shown interest are critical pieces that you are omitting.

I know students with hs gpas of 3.4 who were accepted RD and ones with 4.0 who were rejected ED.

Yes they can but as phaeth said, it also depends much on other factors such as course load. My course load was tough and I also had a gpa similar to yours, but luckily my SATs and ec’sand recs helped me out.

Thanks guys for replying.

I had a few other questions:

How are IB classes viewed, as far as rigor, by the adcomms?

And does Emory like the upward trend in grades? (3.1 Fresh year, 3.33 Soph year, 3.83 Junior year)

How is a 3.5 UW for Oxford of emory? ive heard the stats there are considerably lower then emory but i just wanted to be sure as far as GPA.

With a 3.5UW and IB diploma track, you’re a shoo-in for Oxford (so long as your ECs and test scores are abysmal). As for Emory, your GPA is below average, but the trend trend is really good. If your ECs and test scores are solid, then you have a really good chance.

alright cool thanks HARRRR.

“so long as your ECs and test scores are abysmal”

should be:

so long as your ECs and test scores ARE NOT abysmal.
