GPA/SAT/Senior Mid Year Grades

hi, im going to be a senior this year and am planning to start applying to colleges as soon as i can, however, I need some help. My first 2 years of high school i slacked off quite a bit, leaving me with a 2.67 gpa which is really bad. Junior year i raised my grades a considerable amount, with virtually straight A's and maybe 1 or 2 high B's. Sadly that only got my gpa to a 2.99975 or some absurd number. Which im sure can be rounded to a 3.0 gpa.

My sat scores were not as high as i had expected. I got a 1550. not exactly what i hoped for but its about average. Im planning on taking it again and ill probably getting a higher score.

My concern is pretty obvious, will getting into college be a struggle? My school of preference is the University of Arizona. I found that they have a fairly high acceptance rate. Also, will my midyear transcripts, assuming i keep straight A's, be enough to give me some sort of assurance that i can get accepted to U of A or any other university that is not a community college? This is a big worry of mine. Has anyone been in this situation before or known of anyone in this situation? I understand acceptance is possible but what are my realistic chances?

Well, U of A doesn’t seem to care about the Writing portion of your SAT, so could you tell us what your Reading and Math scores were? I think your GPA is sufficient, but don’t let it slip next semester. Taking at least one or two AP courses would also help.

My math was 510, writing 540, and reading 500.

Hmm…yeah, I’d definitely try to improve on Math and Reading. But since your scores and GPA at the moment are just ‘adequate’ for UA admission, I’d focus on writing a really good essay. That’s probably going to be main factor in your application at this point.

would they also consider over 80 hours of community service, leadership roles in concerts, youth groups and so on? i played football for a year and am going to play soccer this year. how many letters of recommendation would be sufficient?

Yes, list down your leadership roles. Those always help. I wouldn’t even write down anything about football or soccer, since you only played those for one year.

are there any other school similar to u of a that you might recommend given the condition of my grades/scores?

Washington State University? Lol. The education’s not bad, and it’s fairly easy to get into.

aight, thanks anyway for the responses. hopefully i get accepted.

collegeboard say arizona doesnt require sat scores

“” A note about the college’s admission requirements: Applicants must be in top 25% of class or have 3.0 GPA. In-state applicants must have 1040 SAT (exclusive of Writing) or 22 ACT. 1110 SAT (exclusive of Writing) or 24 ACT required of out-of-state applicants. “”
