GPA vs Actual Grade

Hey guys, just wanted to point out something very common on here. I always see on the “chance me” posts that people will sometimes put their GPA, but if you have a low GPA then this means that you have some low grades. I’ve seen some posts that say they are looking to get into Ivy Leagues and top tier schools with a low gpa and will say they have stuff to account for it, but I don’t think there is much you can do to account for a low gpa. I don’t know how colleges look at a gpa vs actual grades on a transcript. Just wanted to see what you guys would say about this.

Not sure what you’re asking. GPA = Actual Grades

Other than Unweighted GPA, it really does not matter what posters state their GPA is since most schools will calculate a GPA based on their own criteria. Unless schools like the California UC’s and CSU’s which have specific instructions on their GPA calculation, I would always defer to the Unweighed where you would see a Low GPA=Low Grades or High GPA=High Grades.

I don’t understand the question either. A GPA is a mathematical calculation of ACTUAL grades. If someone has low actual grades they’ll have a low GPA too.

Perhaps if you’d rephrase the question we could be more helpful.

Perhaps it is worth talking to your guidance counselor to get an understanding of what your transcript will look like and how GPA is calculated.
