My gpa wasn’t good in highschool it was a 2.6 so Im going to Alvin community college for a year then transferring to sam Houston they requirements are 2.5 gpa 12 transferable credits I really hope and pray I get accepted as a transfer student:( what’s a good gpa and how many hours should I do for it to be a chance that they would accept me help thanks
@ashelykk 12 hours is considered to be a full time student, so you need to take at least that, which is four 3 credit hour classes. If one of your classes has a lab, you will end up with 13 hours and an extra class to attend. Most science classes have a lab and you would attend the lecture class and then one other time slot would be the lab.
If you take 12-13 hours each semester, you will come away with 24-26 college hours to transfer to Sam Houston. a 2.5 is a C+ average but you could earn any GPA you set your mind to. Your high school GPA won’t be factored into your college GPA.
To earn a high GPA at ACC, with take attending class every day and not skipping. My kids learned it helps them keep attention and focus by sitting in the front of the class, preferably front row. Participating also helps you get involved in the class. Doing your assignments and studying as a priority and putting your fun second to that is also key. But don’t forget to have the fun after your priorities are done. You need that balance.
Good luck
One more question thank you so much for all your help so I know there requirements are a 2.5 but if I could hopefully hit a 3.0 do you think it’s a better possibility I could get accepted with something higher than a 2.5 ?
I found on the SHU website that if you have 12-17 credit hours, your GPA must be a 2.5 and is a minimum you have to have in order to be considered. 18+ credit hours, the minimum is 2.0.
Anything you have above the minimums will definitely be looked at more favorably.
I think a year at ACC is such a wise idea and it is a great transition from high school to 4 year university.
I have a 3.14 GPA and want to transfer to the college of natural science. I struggled my first year and since then been getting As in all math and science coursework. Should i even bother to apply ?
