I currently have a 2.46 cumulative gpa and I am a freshman going into my sophomore year. After taking summer courses I was able to get a 2.46 but to my luck … I need a 2.5 for me to continue receiving financial aid. Any advice on what I should do now. Do you think I can still be eligible for financial aid after bieng only a few points away
It really depends on the program and the school. Ask.
Talk to your school…every school has their own policies regarding satisfactory academic progress…but you didn’t meet the bar, so you will likely have to appeal.
But more important…what’s the reason your grades this summer weren’t higher?
Lots of kids find themselves in a situation like you’re in. What will be important is that you are talking with the right people in the school - they may point you to an academic advisor who will say you’re fine - you’re not flunking out, and point you to resources like a student writing center, etc. that can help. But often these are not the right people to talk to about maintaining financial aid. Typically student financial services will have sent you a notice on the process for your school.
Some schools will allow you to appeal, and because your summer grades bumped you up a notch, they may agree to extend your “probationary period” and still provide aid for one more semester. Other schools are not be as flexible.
