Gpa

I know GPA is a big thing out there for all of us applying for the Ivy Leagues, but do you think the colleges could turn someone down if there GPA went down from the first semester? I have a friend whose GPA was a 4.3 the first semester but that went down to a 4.1 the second semester of her junior year. Will that affect her chances? Also, I heard that colleges especially look at your spring junior year grades. Is that true?

The grades you make from junior and senior year are the most important because they reflect your most recent academic performance, so yes, they’d be more concerned with junior year spring grades than say, freshman year.

A .2 drop in GPA probably shouldn’t hurt your friend’s status as an applicant too terribly…but it’s definitely a good idea to encourage your friend to work hard in her remaining time in high school.

Anything above a 4.0 is spectacular. No college, no matter how selective will look down on a 4.1 GPA.
