There was an article in the newspaper on 5/24/20 saying that if UM does not open for students on campus in the fall, then it may stay online only all year. If UM does go online only all year (seems doubtful?) , I assume that all the students that rented off-campus housing in Ann Arbor will still be required to pay rent for the year, whether or not they choose to live there?
I’m an incoming UM grad student and have not yet secured housing. I’m thinking of waiting now until an announcement is made as to whether or not classes will be online only. I’m wondering if rents will be cheaper in Ann Arbor if in fact UM is only online. (I’m also wondering if I’ll even be able to find a place at such a late date.) I’d like to move to Ann Arbor regardless of how classes are taught. I figure I might be able to meet some of my professors at a safe social distance even if classes are not taught in person. Plus I have to live somewhere, and it certainly is not going to be with my folks.
I’m hoping to secure a single somewhere, figuring I don’t want roommates during a pandemic.
