Which is a better option? On campus grad housing or finding an apartment outside?

Also, looking for girl roomies going to UMich this Fall... If there is anyone here who is interested in sharing an apartment on or off campus, get in touch...

Any grad students going to UMich this fall?..one week and no replies, am I the only one??

Don’t be discouraged! Today’s the last day that acceptees have to notify their PhD programs… give it a bit of time.

I say off-campus housing but you better look fast as people are snapping up good places around Ann Arbor. But I know that people also love Northwood apartments (grad student housing) but it’s usually geared towards families and international students. Also you don’t get to choose roommates for that…

There are always people looking for roommates so use the UM Off-Campus housing site to start your search :)

Thanks a lot ticklemepink! I didn’t know of this site…looking through it now… Northwood doesn’t seem great…a little expensive and if you don’t get to choose roommates then thats a downside. I was thinking of Willowtree…do you know anything about it? Apparently its close to the North Campus where the engineering buildings are…that would be convenient for me.

Northwood is a decent but pricey option. I lived in Northwood IV for two years, sharing a 3-bedroom with two other students. They don’t seem to allow that anymore, so you could share a 2-bedroom with one other student. The old Northwoods (I and II) are pretty bad but (IV and V) are actually pretty nice. I think the quality of the maintenance and service in general is better than you would find at most apartments.

Lots of engineering students live in Willow Tree because it’s cheap, but everything I’ve heard indicates that it’s not so great, so factor that into your decision. Green Brier is another option, around the same as Willow Tree but it looks nicer IMO. It’s a short 5 min bus ride to North Campus.
