Here’s my essay:
Should heroes be defined as people who say what they think when we ourselves lack the courage to do so ?
People have always cited ‘heroes’ as those people who face adversities by showing vigor and courage.The term ‘hero’ has a much wider scope of interpretation.We always tend to undermine those people who face catastrophes using verbal ways,but the truth is that ‘speaking out’ also requires strength of the mind and soul.
Martin Luther King Jr,reverred by Americans and world citizens alike,is one person who by the use of his words changed the face of America.When others were too frightened or timid to come out and oppose the prevalent racism,Martin Luther King was the one who brought a revolution in place.Making use of his speeches,filled with zeal and pizazz,he managed to coalesce America.His speech “I have a dream” still reverberates around the world.It may seem that speaking against someone oppressive is easy but this is not the case.Only a true hero can fathom the courage to speak against tyranny.
Another example that we can take is Doctor House, portrayed by Hugh Larry,from the famous television sitcom,House.Dr.House has the ability to oppose authority and impose his superiority by making use of witty remarks and metaphors.Other doctors may be apprehensive when faced with a conundrum but not Dr.House.He does not care what people think about him;he speaks his mind and does the right thing.Using his unconventional and eccentric ideas he is able to cure almost all the patients.
Anushka Sharma,an actress,can also be called a hero.She showed the courage to come out and speak against the veiled sexism apparent in the film industry.She said that actresses are usually paid less than actors just because they are ‘women’.Actresses are supposed to act in a special way while actors can do whatever they like.It is not easy going against the norms;she can also be called a hero.
To reiterate,a hero is not only a person who shows physical valor but also somebody who can speak his mind without caring about people’s opinion.
