Grade Grubber?

What does it mean when a teacher calls you a grade grubber?

Does the teacher view you positively or negatively?

A grade grubber is someone that tries to wheedle any extra point possible on their assignments/tests. They’ll ask for extra credit assignments and use any retake opportunity on tests, even if they got an A previously. They’re basically point-mongers.

Most teachers are agitated by grade grubbers. Especially if the student is pushy and rude, which some tend to be.

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong but I think it basically means that you’re someone who does everything in his/her power to gain an extra point or so to a grade he/she received, especially if the grade was already a good grade. Think of it this way, a teacher gives a student back a test where the student received 98/100 marks. If that student tries to persuade with that teacher or argues non-stop with that teacher just to get an extra point or half a point even though the difference may be negligible it would be safe to call that person a grade grubber.

As to what the teacher thinks, it could go either way. The teacher could think that the student is just highly motivated and wants to achieve the best possible result, etc. or the teacher could think that the students just wants to get good grades without necessarily working (or working as hard) for it. I knew this teacher that actually liked when students came to contest their grades if the student had the evidence to back up his/her claims. So it really depends on the individual teacher.

LMAO sounds like me,

literally received a 49/50 on my lab in science, took it to the teacher for a regrade and argued she did not make the question clear enough , and i ended up with a 50/50 but I know most of my teachers do not like me and roll their eyes when I come to them at the end of class… oh well, as long as i get my straight A’s

Wouldn’t your teachers be less willing to write a solid letter of rec?

It’s very negative.
Jesus I hate those kids.

If you do that, you’re a scrub.

It’s never a good thing, and you know you’re bad when a teacher says it.

@bigshot, zorigoo raises a good point. What’re you gonna do when it comes time for recommendations and you don’t have a good report with any of your teachers?

I can’t say teachers would ever use it in a positive way. Unless they were kind of careless with words or something. It’s pretty bad, and college admissions always say they don’t want grade grubbers (just added that in since it is CC).
Quite a number of my friends are grade grubbers haha, I’m just too chill to be one.

There’s nothing wrong about speaking out if one has been unjustly dealt with.

However, if we’re talking about an 8-10 pp political theory paper, you dropping by your professor’s office, wasting his precious time, and then crowning your shameless act by bursting into tears, then you’ve got a problem.
