Question:
Is it important for people to question the ideas and decisions of people with authority?

Throughout history, political power has always been given to a select few who make decision for a population. Although most times people of authority try to make sure that others in power don’t abuse their power, they don’t always. That people question the decision and ideas of people in positions of authority is very important. During the Holocaust, Hitler had many erroneous beliefs about the Jewish population and the public’s belief in his ideas led to a mass murder of the people of Jewish religion. Furthermore, in the novel 1984, by George Orwell, the authoritarian government conjured up fake wars and shortages to deceive and instill fear in its people. Hitler’s ideas and the government’s ideas from 1984 demonstrate how powerful people’s ideas can be wrong and deceiving.

As a man of authority, Hitler influenced many people with his ideas. He blamed the Jewish population for Germany’s economic depression and ordered a mass killing of a religious group for no good reason. During the Holocaust, most Germans followed Hitler and his decisions, which proved to be unjust and inhuman. If people had questioned Hitler’s ideas and decisions, thousands of lives would have been saved. The results of the Holocaust reveal how important it is for people challenge the decisions of people in power.

Similar to how Hitler’s ideas were ill-conceived, the ideas of the totalitarian government in the novel, 1984 by George Orwell, were also misleading and deceptive. In order to main power over its citizens, the government in 1984 decided to make up wars and food shortages to instill fear with its people; the government wanted people to become more heavily dependent on them, thus granting the government more power. By doing so, the government not only kept huge populations of people in the dark about worldly affairs, but also striped the people of the most basic and essential freedom of life, happiness. The actions of the government from 1984 demonstrate how crucial it is for people to question the ideas and decisions of those with authority.

The decisions of the government from George Orwell’s 1984 and the results of the Holocaust shed light on how important it is for people to question the decisions and ideas of those in power. Failure to challenge Hitler’s choices and beliefs during Holocaust led to the death of thousands of Jewish people. In addition, the government of 1984 took away its people of happiness and instilled fear through its ideas of wars and food shortages. Both Hitler’s ideas and the decisions of the government demonstrate how negative consequences will result if people just place blind faith in authority and not challenge them.

You never clearly stated which side you were on in the beginning also I advise you to reread and rewrite your first couple sentences in your introduction as they don’t make alot of sense. This is more mainly my opinion but I don’t think touching on touchy subjects like The Holocoust is good. As some people could read it and be emotionly affected affecting the way they mark you other than that and your first bit of your intro your essay is good 7/12

I’m not sure if you caught it, but that 3rd sentence of my intro stated my position. My teacher told me to always write in active voice in my thesis, so I started the sentence with that. would that affect my score?
