Grade my Essay Please? its about the MYSTERIOUS

Prompt: In which ways have you experienced the "mysterious", and how has that made you feel alive and excited about life? Discuss how science, art, or history illustrates the mysterious.

Quote by Einstein "the most exciting thing we can experience..... blah blah"

In society today, we are often dulled by mundane tasks and pedestrian activities. In order for people to feel excited and captivated about life, an uncertainty or mysterious aspect must be included. The curious human nature tends to lead us towards things we do not know. This not only enthralls us, but may also lead to innovative discoveries.

As stated by Albert Einstein, “the most exciting thing we can experience is the mysterious”. Like all scientists, Einstein was studying to understand the unknown. A big part of scientific innovation is based upon what we do not know or understand. Today, researchers of each branch of science are looking into the unexplored. Astrologists are discovering the mysterious realm of outer space; anthropologists are studying the very origin of mankind; biochemists are looking into cures for cancer and HIV; physicists are trying to control a fusion reaction. In every science imaginable, there are areas to be explored, and knowledge to be gained. The uncharted aspect of science is what enthralls many students.

The curiosity within us often draws us to things we do not know. The Age of Exploration, fuelled by a desire to understand what was beyond the Atlantic Ocean, led to the discovery of the New World. Financed by Portuguese royalty, Columbus and many other explorers set out to discover what was beyond the Atlantic. Despite rumors of “sea monsters” and the existence of kraken, human curiosity has ignited the Age of Exploration, a crucial era in European history.

The theme of the “mysterious” also appears in English literature, such as Shakespeare’s play Macbeth. The ominous and peculiar nature of the witches captivated Macbeth’s curiosity. The puzzling predictions offered by the witches ignited a sense of ambition for Macbeth. Though it led Macbeth to regicide and ultimately his demise, the perplexing nature of the witches seized Macbeth’s curiosity, and made him feel excited and aspired while it lasted.

The mysterious is essential for human innovation and development. Without it, we do not have the fervor to discover new ideas and knowledge. Without the unknown, mankind would live in a stolid hibernation.

Thank youuu

bump please thank you guys

pretty good bro, id say at least 10/12, maybe a 12 but i havent really scored many essays so my opinion aint so strong

Astrologists are the people who cast horoscopes. Astronomers and astrophysicists are the ones “discovering the mysterious realm of outer space.” I know some astronomers who are annoyed by this common misnomer.

haha yeah ive realized after i finished, also it was the Spanish royalty that financed columbia, oh well, 25 minutes is 25 minutes

Where did you get this prompt?

It is a prompt from the Gruber’s Writing Handbook, helped me lots.

Easily a 12

more advice appreciated

Yeah an easy 10 - 12.

I would give it an 7-8. Here’s why:

Your thesis should tell us a bit about what examples you are going to use.

Your first body paragraph is all over the place - what is it about? Use more a more specific example because your generalizations show a lack of depth.

Your second and third body paragraphs are more specfic, but they are too thin and anemic. Put some meat on them and make them more substantial examples (your third paragraph does a better job of this than your second).

thank you noitaraperp, first good advice on how to improve

Doesn’t the prompt say “how did YOU experience the mysterious that made your life more exciting blah blah”?
I think you should answer the prompt.
This is an odd prompt though

I know it’s been 2 years, but i was actually writing for this hard prompt last night. i think this essay would actually give you a 6-7 on this essay. all of your example didn’t prove what YOU think, you got great example, great point, average thesis, great vocabulary, and great execution on examples. but your essay doesn’t answer the prompt :(

This essay was well written, but it did not address the prompt. If you don’t address the prompt, your score automatically becomes a 0…

This thread is 4 years old. I doubt the original poster is still soliciting opinions. Closing.
