I just realized that I should probably practice essay writing a little bit :)

Here's my essay, thanks for reading. I understand that it's not exactly perfect so please give suggestions too.

Do changes that make our lives easier necessarily make them better?

Changes that make our lives easier do not necessarily make them better. Many examples from history and from contemporary life demonstrate that an easier life is not necessarily a better one.

One way that such changes can worsen our lives is by allowing us to get by without learning something crucial. The TI-89 calculator is a device that does just that. With its Computer Algebra System it can solve triangles and trigonometric identities with minimal user knowledge and input. But what happens when a teacher gives a no-calculator test? The TI-89's user is in some deep, deep trouble.

Another way that such a change can worsen our lives is by having severe future consequences. For example, while robbing stores and gas stations can be a munch easier way of obtaining things than working for them is, it will probably land the robber in jail for quite some time, a definite detriment to his quality of life.

A third way that such a change can harm someone is by causing people to lose respect for them. Cheating on a test is easy, but if a teacher catches a cheating student, that student probably just got a zero, a score that most certainly won't improve his life.

Although some changes make our lives easier, it's obvious that they don't necessarily make our lives better.
