what are your thoughts on the idea that failure is necessary for education to take place ?

When a person fails, he is forced to re-examine his thoughts , his methods and his actions to find out what cost him his goal . Failure begets the need to change, and during this change is when education happens. On learning his mistakes, the person then tries again and, if he has truly learnt from his mistakes, succeeds.Evidence of this is seen in the life of Thomas Edison,Dave Mustaine and Buddha.
Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb did not reach his goal easily. Though being naturally intelligent , he spent several years trying to create a source of light . However , after lots of effort and hard work,he finally perfected it.He did not view his failures as time wasted. In fact they were vital steps to his goal,as they told him where he was going wrong and what he needed to change.
A similar example can be seen in history. Gautham Buddha, who was once a prince in northern India, had given up his worldly possessions in the search of the true meaning of life . He went several months without food and suffered immensely . When a woman offered him food once, he accepted and than realised one of the main doctrines of his philosophy:Follow the middle path. In failing to stay without food,he realised what would become one of the main principles of Buddhism.
Another example of failure can be taken from the world of music. Dave Mustaine was a member of the famous heavy metal band "Metallica" . However , he was an alcoholic and relentlessly consume drugs and alcohol. This problem was so bad that he often abused his band members. This strained their once good friendship to such an extent that he was kicked out of the band . Without money or a job , he realised his mistakes and went to rehab. He later went on to create the famous band "Megadeth" which is now very famous and successful . He has now been sober for many years and even become a newborn Christian.
From the examples of Edison,Mustaine and Gautham Buddha, it is very clear that failure is the path to success. Like a baby who falls repeatedly before learning to walk, people too need failure in order to understand their priorities and learn what they need to change about themselves
