<p>Prompt: "How important is it to pay attention to history?"</p>

<pre><code>Past, present, and future are just perceptions of time, but the past has a unique quality. It is a record of our past mistakes, which guides us in the present and future. Also, it is a record of trends that can be used to predict the present and future. Most of all, it is an accumulation of knowledge and wisdom.
When America was colonized, the pilgrims desired a country different from their past. They learned the ramifications of their previous tyrannical government and established a republican country. This idea of a republic dates back to 509 BC when the Roman Republic was formed. Now, America is the great country that it is because past mistakes and past successes guided the principles of the government.
With an understanding of Statistics and a powerful computer, past trends in the stock market can be analyzed and used to predict the future. Without the knowledge of the past, all the stock brokers in Wall Street wouldn’t foresee future trends, and many of them would lose money.
As a student, I feel that I take knowledge and understanding of a vast, broad range of subjects for granted. Every theorem, every book, and every teacher is an accumulation of knowledge that took thousands of years to realize by many intellectuals. Without the past, I would need to study for thousands of years to become as smart as I am now.

In conclusion, history had a major impact on many aspects of society. It aided the creation of a stable and republic government, provided foresight to stock brokers, and accumulated the deep, profound knowledge and understanding of many brilliant individuals. All in all, history deserves our attention.

<p>is this an sat essay? if so, i'd give it a... 4. solid, but it could've been a little longer and more detailed.</p>

<p>I'd probably give it a 7 out of 12 because although it is short you have some good ideas. However, your ideas are not developed enough to get a higher score. I'd recommend that you elaborate a bit more.
Also, your paragraphs only range from 2-4 sentences. A rule of thumb is usually to have 5 sentences in each paragraph. A topic sentence, three supporting facts, and concluding sentence. Two sentences simply can't accomplish that.</p>

<p>nope.
i read ur intro, u didn't answer the prompt. u talked about how important the past is,but u didn't state why history is important. that intro already formed a bad impression on the reader =[</p>

<p>I'd say a 8 or 9 out of 12. It's a great essay and very well-written, but nevertheless somewhat scanty. I wanted more.</p>
