I calculated my GPA for this semester (because school is about to end) and I only received around a 3.5 dropping my accumulative from a 3.8 to 3.6. I also calculated that I would need to get a 4.0 both semesters of next year to get back to a 3.8. A 3.8 seems like a nice place to be because my senators tend to nominate people with a 3.8 or higher.

My worry is, when does West Point check for your grades. Don't you start a file second semester of your Junior year? What is a comfortable GPA to be at in case I don't get my 4.0s?

How heavily do they look at GPA? I heard class rank is more important.

This has been a serious stress item of mine, any advice or answers will be very helpful.

West Point will look at your transcripts after your 6th semester and after your 7th semester.
Class rank, the strength of your courses and schedule are more important than GPA. GPA is just a number - the criteria for calculating it varies widely from school to school so they look at your entire transcript in context.
Class rank give admissions a good idea of how you perform against your peers with the same educational opportunities.
Don’t forget - the SAT/ACT is also very important, so schedule the test, practice and plan on taking it a few times to get your best possible score.

Are you sure you calculated your gpa correctly? I would find it really hard to believe that getting a 3.5 one semester could drop your over all gpa from a 3.8 to a 3.6
