I'd love to attend ND, but I'm a bit nervous about what kind of grades are needed to get in.

I'm a junior taking all honors classes. By the time I graduate, I'll have taken 5 AP classes, and four years of math/science/language/English. My GPA is around a 4.00. First semester of this year, I got A's and B+s in all my classes...except accelerated Physics, which I got a C+ in. :( I'm working really hard and I'm going to do my best to bring that grade up, but I'm just wondering if that one semester grade would really hurt my chances.

need a >unweighted 3.85 in core honors and AP courses and aim for an ACT>33, along with good EC's. If you don't have this, don't apply EA unless unless you are a legacy. Also the physics grade won't hurt if your aren't applying to engineering or physics. But you must stay in the honors and AP track to get into ND.

I'd disagree a little with the above post (you don't NEED >3.85/33....shoot for a 3.6 or above and 30 or above) but besides that it's pretty good advice.

One semester grade is not going to kill your chances. You don't need to get straight A's to be admitted to Notre Dame or any other college. Check out the official admissions page, where you will learn that 88% of students are in the top 10% of their class, which means that 12% of students are not.

Notre Dame does not accept people into particular schools (well technically the first year of studies) so it does not matter if you are applying for Engineering or Physics. Just make sure you have a strong application overall, one semester will not ruin everything.

Unless admissions has changed its approach to evaluating students, it has been my impression that ND is one of the few schools that honestly looks at the entire student's app--grades, test scores, essays, recs, ecs, difficulty of courseload, etc. They look at the entire package and not just one C+.

Thanks for all of your comments; I'm feeling a little better now. :) And no, definitely not planning on becoming a rocket scientist anytime soon!

need a >unweighted 3.85 in core honors and AP courses and aim for an ACT>33, along with good EC's. We heard this from an admissions officer in a one-to-one converstation, this is what is needed for a non-legacy, non-minority white kid

Dont worry too much about the C+. I got a C for the year sophomore year in Honors Algebra two. I am probably going to double major in Film/Television/Theatre (if I go to ND) and i was accepted EA. So dont stress out too much. Try not to end with the C for the year because it could hurt your shots a bit, but dont freak out too much. Good luck!
