Grades Slipped second semester junior year

Due to crohn’s disease and other issues my grades fell from straight A’s. Im expecting two B’s and two C’s and my uw gpa will probably be around 3.8. Assuming I do well on my SAT, what are the chances I can get into the NC state engineering college?

Thank you

According to the NC State University Common Data Set (CDS) on last year’s entering class, your 3.8 GPA would put you right in the middle of the last accepted class. See page 10 of the CDS report @ https://oirp.ncsu.edu/facts-figures/external-reports/common-data-set/. You do need to be sure you did not miss some important math concepts due to your health issues because math is a pyramidal construct. Believe it or nor, simultaneous equations in Algebra II are probably the most critical part of your math pyramid when you move into simultaneous concepts in calculus. Engineers live in simultaneous systems. Discuss it with your math teacher.

Needles to say, but I will anyway, make sure recommendations cover this issue so the grade drop is clarified to the bleary eyed reader.

You are a very reasonable applicant to NC State, but I would not count them as a sure bet. Be sure you have a backup that can also meet your needs. STEM applications seem to get tighter every year.

My local TV weatherman has his BS in engineering and has been broadcasting successfully for twenty-five years with crohn’s disease. He even got to spend one winter at the coldest place on earth That’s a big deal for a weatherman!

But keep in mind, the engineering program usually has a higher threshold than most other colleges in the university. Be sure to apply to a second non-engineering program, you can then later try to transfer into engineering. Good Luck.
