How much are grades weighted in your admission when you’re auditioning for musical theatre? I know for some programs they say 80% is your audition. Is the same true for ithaca?

My son is entering Ithaca in the fall as an MT major. His test scores were good but his GPA was around 3.1. I don’t think the college is particularly selective academically.

I believe at most schools, it is primarily the audition, but strong grades and high test scores certainly help. Our son’s GPA was just above a 3.6, but his test scores were in the top 1%. While his GPA was below the average for one very (academically) selective school, he was accepted into that school’s BFA MT program. Yet, he didn’t get in to 2 less academically selective schools (that may arguably be a little less artistically selective also), which illustrates how the top audition schools really should be considered lottery schools.
