I was wondering if MIT uses the grades you got in your intended major area as a criteria for admission. I've got A+s in AP Chem and AP Physics (APs) but got a B+ in Biology. But my apps focused on bio coz that's where my passions lie. Will my grade in Bio affect me?

Eh, I don’t think so.

I used to be really paranoid about this, but then I just stopped worrying about it. If you love bio, then focus your app around bio.

I’ve gotten one B in my three years of high school (in bio), and I wrote about wanting to major in biological engineering, and I was admitted, so don’t worry about it too much.

Besides, I think the adcomms know that most people will end up changing their major a few times once in college.

This quote from Mollie may help.

Don’t worry about it, for all I know your bio teacher may just be a tougher grader.
