Grades?

When do first term grades come out? Are they sent via email? Snail mail to home address or Caltech address? (I doubt if my DS will even mention he's received them if I don't ask).
thanks!

& good luck to all the EA applicants!

Usually snail mail to home address near the end of break.

You can also check them online via Regis. Grades were due from professors on Wednesday, so they should be up relatively soon.

Thanks so much, TMiike & alleya! I'll wait a bit to bug my DS - "did you pass?" Though I see him so little (I had thought that Oakland and Pasadena where in the same time zone, but now I know differently).

I actually learned this for the first time yesterday. I guess those new-fangled computers and that whole Inturnet craze is still too confusing for me.

Oakland is on PST; Pasadena is on CSST (California Student Standard Time). CSST is about three hours behind PST.

are they on regis? i tried logging on, but was unsuccessful, so i emailed the registrar and they said regis has been deactivated since dec.1 and won't be back until after break, which is weird since it says its sys. status is "online".

That's odd. Well, I haven't tried to access grades for this term, so it's possible the system is turned off. Why in the world would they do that at a time when people would so obviously want to use it?

I can get into regis; but through a VPN. A couple of my grades are around, but not all of them. You can't log into regis without coming from a Caltech IP address, so you either need to get a VPN, someone to set up a proxy, or use Caltech DialUp.

there's some kind of new WebVPN service, so try to google that (Caltech web VPN or caltech webvpn regis) and you may be able to find an easy way to get in with no special software and minimal bother.

webvpn.caltech.edu it seems, works.

I just use SSH tunnelling; it's very easy

thanks. the vpn thing works. i got my grades through the mail today, too.
