Grammar Mistakes in app

Personal Statement
“my parents gave me to me a birthday present”

1st PLME essay
“erupting into a violent coughing”

…i just saw them… how bad will it reflect on me? having the extra ‘me’ and the ‘-ing’

I'm sorry but the first mistake sticks out. But the second would hopefully go unnoticed. Overall, doesn't look like anything that can land you right in the R pile, but hey, this is Brown. Maybe they'll have second thoughts about you and resort to their usual darts game;)

If you think that's bad...this is the last sentence of my Brown personal statement: "I am confident that have left an enduring legacy at my school, not only o"
It got truncated. Beat that!

Huh, now THAT's bad. You should definitely call the school and send them your full essay. Else I'm inclined to think this'll be an autoreject case. But hey, how could you actually exceed commonapp's generous 6000 char limit?

he proly did his on Brown's online text field which only allows 3500 chars

i just wish i saw those mistakes before i sent it out........

It's not autoreject. One sentence in an essay, no matter how bad, does not compensate for 4 years of high school

i wouldn't worry about little mistakes too much. lots of people have them. i had a random quoation mark in mine...don't know how that got there.

thanks for the info cc'ers

lol squiggle... just how you worded your situation made me laugh

haha no problem, glad to entertain :)

coolkash, I had to read your first sentence thrice to see the mistake. My head is programmed to immediately jump over the first "me," I guess.

If I were an admissions officers, I don't think I would mind seeing a mistake or two. To me, it would say that the student did the essay and not a parent or a paid consultant.

uh, in #1 the "to" is extraneous also...

in #2 the 2nd "ing" is not really bothersome... feels colloquial
