Hi, I'm going to live in off-campus apartment next year and I was thinking about living in grand marc with four of my friends. I heard lots of sketchy things about grand marc, but all my friends already turned in their lease. Should I just tell them to cancel their lease and live somewhere safe or just live in grand marc? Anyone currently living in grand marc?

Linoch, I have heard sketchy things about Grand Marc as well. Based on what I have heard from people I know who live there, there are quite a few break-ins and that the management won’t take care of any problems you have with the property once you have signed your lease and paid them. If you plan to rent an apartment near campus, you could always consider the UVTs. It is the same price as Grand Marc and you and your friends can get $200 back if you refer ea other for a new lease.

Live somewhere safe? Being safe really depends on you. I’m not sure how UV towers could be considered any safer when grandmarc is right across the street from it and I’ve walked into UV towers multiple times to meet up with friends. All in all the gates are really just a false sense of security. Dont walk by yourself at night and if you do don’t bring anything you wouldn’t be willing to lose. I know it shouldn’t be like that, but I do that back home too and when Im walking back from night classes. Its not exactly the nicest/safest area to begin with.

I live at Grandmarc and I’ve gotten stuff fixed and things changed. Writing that you need a screen for your window on work order request probably isnt going to get anything done, but walking in and complaining to whoever is at the front desk will. Security wise they really started to crack down on that. Security guards are usually there Thursday/Friday/Saturday nights and last night they wouldn’t let party kids in because they didn’t live there.

I settled on Grandmarc over UV/Sterling well because I just found it to be nicer for the same price. I love the pool/gym/theater room/jacuzzi and my apartment. I’ve never really had a problem. Ive heard of break ins but honestly the people that tell me it happened to them, were either asking for it or it was just out of their control. Like he threw a party at his apartment, got drunk, and someone broke into his room.(locks on the individual rooms are easily credit carded, the lock to the actual front door of the apartment is a key card) What is management suppose to do? The other one I heard is he left for the weekend, his roomates threw a party, someone broke into his room. If you know your roomates that shouldn’t be a problem.

I wouldn’t judge the apartments off what a couple people are saying. Take a tour, and ask an employee any questions or concerns you may have. They really want you to sign a lease so hold out and say another apartment offered you an ipod touch or something extra to sign. They’ll usually throw something out there. I know it sounds like Im biased, but I dont even plan to renew my lease here so I’ve just enjoyed my time here. Also if your friends already signed and got approved, Im pretty sure there’s no cheap way out of that lease.

thank you for sharing your experience Robokat. I think i’m considering moving into grand marc. But I have a few more questions to ask.
Is there a lot of RCC students and other college students that throw party every friday, saturday, and sunday night? I heard it is really hard to study quietly and sleep at night because there are parties almost like everyday. Also, I heard some people even throw stuff from their balcony at night and the securities don’t really care about whether strangers come in or not. Do you think everything have changed by now? The apartmentratings gave a really low rating on Grand Marc… so I’m actually a little concerned about living there…

this also makes me not want to live in Grand Marc anymore because it’s not just few ppl… it’s a lot of ppl…

No problem Im happy to help, I was a bit nervous about moving in too. Lol those reviews are a bit atrocious. Maybe Im just lucky or optimistic? Theres been some inconveniences, but nothing that was a huge problem like I said. When I first moved in, the kitchen was pretty dirty, but I complained right away and they were cleaning it the next day. They had just replaced the carpet and painted so that was nice. The couch is pretty ugly lol and they do trick you with the model apartment. The washer broke once and they were there the next day to fix it. My shower broke once and they were there the same day. They called me the other day asking to me to renew my lease and I said they didnt have the jacuzzi on at midnight so I wasnt going to. They started leaving the jacuzzi on lol.

As for your questions, there is a nice mix of RCC, cal state, and ucr students and yes there’s parties, I’m not sure I would say everyday, Friday and Saturdays are the usual days and theres the occasional random weekday party. That all stops the week of midterms and finals though. It depends on your luck as to the noise level. You’re either going to live by some party kids or you won’t. Besides when theres a party in my living room(only twice so far), noise hasn’t been a problem. There’s one party that I can usually hear music from, but its faint. During the day on weekends and on weekdays though, its actually pretty quiet. Request building D, I think the noise is usually coming from B and C. Also I chose the third floor, my logic being a robber isnt going to go all the way to the third floor when there are two lower floors. Apparently Im the only one who thinks like that though because everyone else thought I was joking when I said that lol.

Yah security wise they usually just check cars coming in and not people walking in, but last weekend they stopped people from coming in. I hope they keep that up. All in all, if the apartments are really that bad, I still like it and I knew no one moving in. If you’re moving in with 3 people you already know, you should be fine.
