Trying to predict chances of getting off grandparent waiver waitlist at UF for 2023 Freshman. Daughter applied and completed grandparent waiver mid October, 2022, and got waitlisted. Did anyone get the waiver already who applied first two weeks of October or late September to UF?
Adding to the lunacy of this college admissions guessing game my son just got the grandparent waiver approved off the wait list. Unfortunately he isnāt even fully admitted to the school (he only got Pace which is a complete non-starter). Thus if youāre on the waitlist be patient because barring some change to his admissions status we will almost certainly be going elsewhere and this will free up.
What date did you apply to get a general idea where they are?
September 9th
Thanks eschuke. My daughter submitted her grandparent waiver on October 8, 2022, I believe a week after her application. Thanks for the advice. We will wait it out. May have to put in an enrollment deposit to be considered in the month of May.
Hi Melissa! You seem to know so much about this Grandparent Waiver so I was really hoping you would help me figure out a few things! First, I got waitlisted for the Grandparent Waiver. I applied for it in October and really need this to be able to attend UF. Iām in love with the school but I wasnāt sure the chances I would ever get off the waitlist? Do you know how many people are? Or what percent? Iām just not sure if my chances are good enough to rely on itā¦ Thank you so much!
Unfortunately there isnāt a good answer. Weāll award more as soon as the state tells us how many they want to give out. Last year our second set came after May 1st but since it is a state award we are waiting for the information. It is definitely super popular. I believe we have more total people on the wait list now than the total state gave out in scholarships last year.
Ok, thanks for the info!
What date did you apply in October?
October 26th!
When did they submit the waiver?
Early October in the first few days. Will let you know if we get one, good luck
Got it
My son has elected to go to another school. His waiver should open for someone soon.
How would deferring enrollment affect grandparent waiver eligibility? Would you be able to apply again for next yearās waivers or does #5 in the attached guidance document preclude that? Iām pretty sure you must accept the admissionās offer and then request a deferment, so not sure if #5 applies or it is only referring to people applying for admission later in life.

The grandparent waiver means students need to start right away and cannot defer - just like the benacquisto scholarship - they both require a student to start right away in summer/fall.
FYI, my son just this afternoon got notified he got the grandparent waiver for UF off the waitlist. We applied somewhere between Nov 8 and Nov 11 ā we got two emails and Iām not sure when his place in line was set. He had been offered a out-of-state distinguished scholar tuition waiver, but the grandparent waiver is worth a lot more, so they took that back and replaced with the grandparent waiver (which they had explained would happen when he got the distinguished scholar $$). Yay! He was excited to go to UF already, but this makes it even better!
I am a student who applied on February 25th and was placed on the waiver waitlist on March 3rd. Does anyone know how close I am to potentially being given a waiver from the waitlist, or am I too far down the line?
Does anyone know if the date the grandparent waiver for UF gets a time stamp for getting in the queue is the date the grandparent waiver is submitted, or rather the date the application is complete? My son submitted the grandparent waiver for 2024 but has not uploaded his latest SAT score because he doesnāt have it yet. Thanks.
The qualifying SAT/ACT needs to be uploaded because that is an integral part of the qualification.
