Please keep in mind that it is entirely possible that employers will not find certificates from for-profit schools to be credible. Kaplan is known to be a predatory college and has been under federal investigation more than once.
@Madison85 it says i will graduate in 2020 but i have to take loans out
it is at university of phoenix
@mommdc no i am a first time student
@romanigypsyeyes i attend university of phoenix and there under investigation as well whats with all these schools under investgation
They are FOR PROFIT schools. They have zero interest in actually preparing you for a job. They want your MONEY and nothing else.
Please, do not go to any more for-profit schools. Their degrees are often not worth the paper they’re printed on.
Look at your local community colleges or directional universities.
@romanigypsyeyes i could change my school but i already tried they said if i withdraw ill owe $11000 ive only been attending for a month and half basically they said im screwed
@kelsmom do you know if this student has any recourse whatsoever?
So…you filed a FAFSA in mid June. Your school does NOT participate in the Direct Loan Program.
Do you have ANY other options for college choices. This one doesn’t sound like a good option to me.
@thumper1 yes & they do participate but at this time when i stress to them i wanna drop they tell me i will owe them $11000 even though they have not given me a penny
You are confusing the living daylight savings out of me!
are you withdrawing from this school? Has the term begun! Have you read the policies regarding laying once you are enrolled…and decide to withdraw?
I have started a week ago,but there unknolegable and as well i dont like how i keep hearing the degrees are worthless so i want to withdraw but they said if i decide to i will owe $11000 but im in my first week and the total for this perion is $3000
I don’t see how withdrawing after one week would result in owing the full $11000. Can you talk to a financial aid supervisor?
I dont either its annoying me and thats the person who told me this several of them told me same thing and this is my first time in college never been before and this situation makes me say i dont want to go to college anymore and now im reading how their degrees mean nothing beacause people cant use them
Talk to your advisor to withdraw since you can’t afford it (and the certificate could be pointless). Resist your advisor’s high pressure sales tactics.
Do you have a parent who could help you?
All the adviors and financial aid advisors are like best friends there all saying same things and they are rude telling me im just gonna fail and i have no options it just doesnt seem right
She had 3 weeks to withdraw without any cost, and she didn’t. Now she’s past the withdrawal deadline.
Devon, go to the school and tell them that because your FA is not there, posted, you cannot stay at the school. Contact the consumer advocate at your state attorney general’s office. That might be enough to get you out of the contract. That is, if you WANT to withdraw. If you want to go there, you can get the financial aid. UPhoenix is a lot more established than the other not-for-profits. I know people who graduated and were happy with their education and degrees, but you have to decide what you want to do.
It’s a for-profit school.
I did my fasfa in june and its taking months to process my financial aid
Phoenix is a known predatory school. Did you do one of the courses that you can do for “free” for 3 weeks and then withdraw without penalty?
twoinanddone, there are literally thousands of complaints against Phoenix. Please don’t give this student false hope when it’s already clear that s/he’s being taken for a ride.
There are people who win big in casinos, too, but that doesn’t mean that the vast majority of players don’t lose.
