GreatAmerican vs THE MOMS

USNA85 Thanks for the info on the major. We have suggested maybe Poli Sci for a minor, he is thinking English to go with the Div II major. You see the importance of Engineering/technology with a Humanities major, we think the Science/Engineering needs a Humanities/Social Sciences side. Luckily he validated enough that he should be able to do a minor.

Any other grads or current students would like to here about your major.

Despite the misleading name of this thread (can we rename it??), this has been a most interesting read....thank you all!!!

Cooperate and graduate aka gouge :(

One word about gouge. And this is from witnessed experience. You may come from an academy, but most of your fellow officers come from ROTC and OCS. They did not have benefit of gouge, most of the time, and made their grades on their own.

You will most likely go on to specialized training and graduate schools, possibly at military facilities. Gouging is very frowned on and a bad habit to get into. You have got to be able to stand on your own academic legs and not depend on others. You will maintain and further gain a certain amount of respect from your fellow officers and instructors.

I am fascinated! The things I am learning!

Re: this thread...
Without moms, would there be mids? I think not.

And, if there are some that are the younger set that want to have a space that's just theirs....why not just begin a thread that will be interesting only to you, and invite us to stay off it?

Or, use Facebook to do your chatting? And, shouldn't you be studying?

Truly, most parents come on CC because numerous college educations are borne, in one way or another, by the parents. We've been there from conception to now, and not really likely that we'll be disappearing anytime soon. SA's also teach you that it's a team effort. That includes the home team, kiddos! Remember from whence you came! Just today I received a very interesting email from a young man (friend of my son) who is at USMA. I asked "What one thing have you learned since you went away last summer to I-Day". His reply? "I have learned that everything that all of the old people have ever told me is true. Enjoy your early days!" Smart young man...

jmwrites-

That is so nice. Plus, I agree with you. Shouldn't they be studying?

Yeah, right. I'm sure that NROTC students NEVER used gouge.

It's better to know your stuff, sure, but gouge is gouge. No different from water-cooler gossip (intel) at work.

And believe me, you cannot graduate USNA relying solely on gouge. There's not enough of it to make that work.

It's a crutch and a poor one. It shouldn't be used unless someone missed notes in a class, and HOPEFULLY, they took good ones.

Know your stuff. Plain and simple.

No doubt, but if fate drops an opportunity in your lap....

1.0 Boatman. My mom remembers him. Got a D in his class! My dad never had him. Anyone remember Prof Milkman for Diffy Q's? Gave out a practice final to study by. Turns out it was the actual final that shouldn't have been handed out. Needless to say a new final had to be written

Z... cheer up... you have an angel up in heaven watching over you every minute of the day...and night....

take some comfort in that.
And yes, I agree that it takes parenting to understand parenthood....
and hopefully our kids will get there too....

As for wild bill and killer keith.... please tell me they have long since retired....??? or should a general warning go out to all the mids???
getting gray hair just thinking about it!

Are some of these same profs you guys are talking about still there?

I don't know about Rocket Reed, but 1.0 Boatman is gone. My husband had a fit when I sent him an email at work asking about Rocket Reed...he called right back and in a panicked voice, asked if he was one of our son's professors!

Ooh. That's frightening. Is there a way to check online who's teaching and who's not?

Yeah, the Rocket will have that effect on you! Not only was he a tough prof, he was downright hostile towards Midshipmen!

Who would this Rocket Reed be when he is at home?

oh my.... well post #51 was "entered" way back on page 1.... hmmmm... now how did that happen?????

as for majors.... thorpedo is interested in naval archectiture.... any info out there to share from those who have BTDT????

It would seem the Horsemen from the Mechanical Engineering department are all gone. None of their names appear in the faculty list of that department. The one Reed is a LT, so that's not the Rocket.

Interesting..... Professor Kriebel, now Director of the Ocean Engineering department, was my academic advisor my first two years. Great guy! While I'm glad to see him at the top of the department, that means Professor Nuckols retired or left, and he was SUPER cool.

The bad news is that Machine Gun McCoy is still teaching mathematics!

drummer, my husband got an F+ on his first paper in Boatman's class and a C for the course....thank for it too

Just to throw in my change for a $, it's kind of funny when people who've been here for 5 or 10 posts criticize the posts of those who've built the board and topics up from almost nothing.

I remember all the whining about Moms and Dads who shouldn't be here also. I'm sure all those whiners are working at McDonalds while the Moms and Dads kids worked hard and got started on there dreams.

One Liners indeed. Keep it up Moms and Dads.
