Greek Life and engineering

I will be attending the University of Illinois this fall as an electrical engineering major. I care about my grades quite a bit, but also am very social and would love to join a frat.

keeping this in mind I have two questions:
1. Is rushing 1st semester a bad idea considering the difficulty of engineering at UIUC?
2. If it's not (which I am hoping) what are some good frats that I should look into? What makes them good?

I was at UIUC for EE last year. I joined a frat first semester. its really a big time commitment and i’d only advise you join a frat if you have ur academics down. what i mean by that is that you automatically have to be very efficient, disciplined, and good at time management to have ur academics down in ECE (even if ur not in a frat or any other clubs that take up time). so, if u got all that down, and u can still spare more time (maybe like 10-15 hours a week to do pledge class, other rushing obligations, and chill with the bros), then do it.

on the other hand, u dont have to join a frat to be social. if youre rushing or in a frat, then it makes it easier because u have automatic access to pregrames and parties. but if u have friends in frats, then they can also get u in to parties (not pregames). furthermore, frat activities arent the only social things at UIUC. sometimes, drinking with a group of friends at a house or dorm is as fun as a hugeass frat party.

good luck dude

Did you transfer? If you would be willing and have the time i’d love to DM you some more questions I have about the university/Greek life.

no i was out of high school accepted into EE. i was dropped and im planning on returning next fall semester. and idk what DM means but sure.
