Hi,

I've recently been accepted into Penn's class of 2016. I'm really looking forward to Greek Life this year and I was hoping for a much more recent explanation of the sororities. being that I'm from Miami, I'm currently very interested in Theta. A few of the questions I have:

-What kind of girls are the girls in Theta really like?
-Is it hard to be accepted into Theta/Is the sorority really exclusive?
-Can someone describe the girls in Theta besides the cocaine use rumors.
-What are some other sororities that are pretty popular with the incoming freshman class?
-What is the most recent rundown of the sorority rankings.

Thanks in advanced.

Just like in any sorority, you’re going to find reasonably diverse girls in theta. They have a reputation for being somewhat edgy, somewhat heavier partiers/drinkers/drug users than the other sororities. Typically associate a fair amount with Owls, Castle, and some of the classically “top tier” frats. Known for their black and gold accessorizing and more difficult pledging process (compared to some others). I know some really sweet Thetas and some thetas whom I dislike. Each pledge class is about 50 girls. You’ll get some variety, although they tend to be wealthier, more jewish, and from the LA, Miami, or NYC area. Also reasonably international.
Theta is reasonably exclusive. But they had a lower yield this year. As picked by the freshmen girls actually choosing their sororities (during pref round, when you make your final choice), I believe the rankings were:
- TriDelt
- AXO
- Alpha Phi
- Theta
- SDT
- ChiO
- SK
- ZTA

but traditionally, rankings are something like

Tridelt, Theta, AXO

APhi, SDT, ChiO

SK, ZTA

Though recent buzz has been that TriDelt this year was leagues above everyone else, Theta wasn’t as amazing, SK is better, and ChiO is worse.

Also, funny thing about Theta and cocaine- I had to go to Student Health Services for a cold, and I was chatting with one of the doctors who went to penn undergrad, and he said that he never actually believed the Theta cocaine rumors until he started having to treat a bunch of them for symptoms of drug use when he started practicing at Penn. So interesting perspective on that. At the same time, it’s not like you have to do coke. Do what you want.

And so you know, rush is in the spring, you have plenty of time to decide, and it’s a lot about what feels right at the time.

Cocaine at Penn is pretty interesting. It’s everywhere and nowhere - everyone knows it’s on campus but people are very discreet about it. I’m sure Theta’s do a lot of coke compared to the general student body, but it seems like a wide cross-section of people do it too.

A better way to put it might be that depending on who you surround yourself with, you could easily go four years without ever hearing about explicit coke use, or any hard drugs really besides weed and MDMA. I don’t think you’ll ever be pressured into doing coke, but it’s much more accessible when you’re in Theta and mixing with a bunch of wealthy and international frats.

hey just wondering what the girls are like in these sororities. Do these girls really put out often and easy for frat guys like is implied in movies?

also are there enough hot girls to go around or is it that there are a lot of hot girls and a lot more hot guys and its really difficult for guys who are average to below average.

thanks
