Greek Life Rankings

It was said in jest. You’re in college and post regularly on a college prospect forum. /argument

@wes2010:
Like they said, no one will post what happens as far as hazing is concerned because 1. That is seen as a secret between the brothers of that frat or sisters of that sorority, and talking to non-members or potential-members about “secret rituals” isn’t allowed.
HOWEVER many sororities and fraternities at UT have been written up numerous times for hazing- the rule at UT is that Hazing of any kind is not allowed (we are even forced to attend a 2 hour meeting about the Hazing policy). You can check the UT Greek Life website and they have info about the groups that have been charged with Hazing. I only know of one sorority that hasn’t gotten into trouble with hazing at least once, and there are many “horror stories” from both frats and sororities of things that have happened in the past leading to the ban on hazing.

I know that ZBT is currently under investigation. As a result, next year will likely be a really easy pledge process and the hazing will be minimal. Regardless, they have the 2nd highest pledgeship GPA, always a good indicator stat of what takes place.

Yeah frat daddy’s cheating their way through the UT system… that’s why some of them have the quote “highest” GPA

It’s not the grades you make it’s the hands you shake.

Yes, because professors and TAs give preferential treatment to those in fraternities right? There’s a reason why the majority of Fortune 500 CEOs are Greek, that every president but three since 1825 has been Greek and why the average Greek GPA is higher than the average non-Greek GPA. Its because the Greek system emphasizes teamwork, networking skills, social maneuverability, and balance between social, academic, and other functions. So jkaplan1212, if you want to rush go ahead and rush, i guarantee you that you won’t regret it.

^ great post, I’m definitely considering it

What fraternity is KA?

KA is Kappa Alpha, its a large fraternity that was kicked out of IFC a few years back and when given the option of re-joining, they declined. Anything further, I don’t know.

So KA is Kappa Alpha Psi? I thought it was a different fraternity, so just wanted to make sure…these greek names can get confusing if you are not familiar with them!

no, Kappa Alpha Psi is an African-American interest fraternity, KA is short for Kappa Alpha Order, they are two totally different fraternities…
This is Kappa Alpha: [Kappa Alpha Order - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Kappa Alpha Order - Wikipedia)
This is Kappa Alpha Psi: [Kappa Alpha Psi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Kappa Alpha Psi - Wikipedia)

Thank you mkose1.

Just an FYI, KA is rejoining the IFC. For various reasons, it was decided to rejoin. Not sure when it’s going to show up on the greek website, but they are paying their dues this semester.

They were kicked out of IFC many years ago for something the IFC called hazing, but KA nationals disagreed and allowed the chapter to keep their charter and be independent of the school. A couple of years ago, they registered as a school organization, but not in the IFC. I think pressure from nationals is why, but doesn’t matter, it’s a done deal.

The story I was told was that they were kicked off after a racist incident, something involving pledges wearing blackface.

[KA’s Omicron Chapter Suspended following allegations of racial insensitivity - GreekChat.com Forums](<a href=“KA's Omicron Chapter Suspended following allegations of racial insensitivity - GreekChat.com Forums”>KA's Omicron Chapter Suspended following allegations of racial insensitivity - GreekChat.com Forums)

UT’s greek life website lists the reason they were suspended as hazing.

The article posted in your link states anyway that what KA was being accused of was having people at the party wearing “racially insensitive” shirts. I think the black face person was supposed to be a fiji.

As the following article showed, the KA national offices investigated the allegations, found them to be baseless, and decided that whatever happened did not violate their code of conduct, so they did not lose their charter.

Obviously, Fiji didn’t lose their’s at the time either for their “racist incident” because neither chapter at any time lost their charter for the events raised in The Daily Texan. And, The Daily Texan is not known for their accuracy or their fondness for greek life on campus in any way shape or form. They’ll jump on any negative story and run with it, whether it’s true or not, whether they’ve presented things factually or not, and forget a retraction!!

Which brings up an interesting thing to me. I’ve had 2 kids attend 2 different colleges where the campus newspapers have completely different stances on greek life. On my older son’s campus, the newspaper has a “greeklife” section which lists all activities, both good and bad. So, if an organization has a fundraiser or philanthropic event, it’s listed. On the UT newspaper, you will ONLY see negative reporting about greeklife.

I guess it has to do with the entire culture of the campus and who runs things. I don’t know, just guessing.

I heard that ZBT GPA is so high because they have a cabinet full of past tests/papers etc. for their brothers to “look at”. Haha. Nothing like a cheating frat.

Even if that were true, that’s exactly the same as when my astronomy professor gave us finals from past semesters to “look at”, nothing like a cheating astro prof.

^ rosemont I think you have something against ZBT, you’ve been ripping on them haha

mkose1, who was your Astro. professor if you don’t mind telling me?

I forgot his first name, but his last name was jaffe, he was good, just put too much math in a class for non majors
