!!!!GREEK LIFE!!!!

Honestly, I've been PMing some of the UR undergraduate and parents of UR students, but I still want to hear from a broader scope of audience.

How much does the greek like influence your social/academic life?
My parents are strictly conservative and Christiany so it is VERY hard to convince them of agreeing to consider UR as my ED...

Any help..?

Thanks

Hey Hoolala, I know this is old but I see no one else has answered your question yet. I’ve been here for over a month now and I can say that greek life has had no influence on me whatsoever. I have been invited to a couple parties by upperclassmen, but haven’t gone and it was no big deal. I go to a lot of the CA alternative events on the weekends and hang out with my friends. So far they have had a carnival night, a board game night, and this week is an open mic night. Greek life is pretty isolated on campus- i’ve found that you have to explicitly seek it out. Otherwise, you don’t even realize its there half the time. Greek life is a big minority on campus.

@guineagirl96‌ Thanks for taking time
How is diversity represented in the clubs and activities you are associated with? I’ve read reviews concerning homogeneity and not open-minded community…
I’m keeping in mind your previous replies to my UR posts, (how not everyone is, strictly speaking, well-off and high-class). However, can you tell me what really dragged you to UR? Did you apply as ED with scholarships? How is academics so far? What is your major, may I ask?

Well, Im mainly associated with the ensembles in the music department and they’re very open minded. So is CA alternatives, which hosts the weekend activities that are substance free. I’ve found everyone I’ve met here to be very open-minded. I really liked the community and close-knit environment of the school. Campus is small- you can cross campus in 10-15 minutes on foot. Also, I believe my largest class is 23 people- class sizes are small, so you really get to know your professors and they care about you. My academics are good- have As in everything right now but my first year seminar, which is really hard. Im planning on doing some combination of a triple major or double major and a minor with math, computer science, and music.

Oh and I forgot to mention, I applied regular decision by the scholars deadline of Dec 5 (they extended it last year).
