I’ve been looking around at different schools and was wondering about greek life at villanova. I saw on the school’s greek life site that fraternities weren’t allowed to recruit this spring, did something specific happen or was it a long time coming? Is the community any different recently because they aren’t taking in new members? Just trying to get a feel for the greek community in general if anyone has any insight!
This situation is very complicated and I dont really understand the details but I will try to explain them the best I can as a rising sophomore who is outside Greek life. Nova does not allow students to rush their first semester, but some of the frats on campus got caught trying to do so. This caused the university to suspend rushing for the semester giving the frats the chance to fix this issue. Then nova allowed rushing for fraternities after our spring break as they realize it is difficult for sophomores to pledge given the increased work load. From then on rushing carried on as usual and is expected to continue to do so. This situation seems like a one time thing based off the way rushing had worked at nova. That being said to my knowledge this should not impact the frats abilities to recruit and operate as normal going forward. I hope this is fairly accurate and helpful for anyone wondering. The Greek community is still present on Villanovas campus but definitely not something a student needs to do to “party” or have fun at villanova.
