Greek Life

I want to rush at cal this fall (sorority)..and I was wondering if any of you knew about the "reputations" of each of the houses....not exactly tiers and stuff, although that would be nice too, but I read somewhere else that one house is "the partiers", one house is "the nerdy girls"...etc. i just want to be able to find people with the same interests as me, and sometimes its hard to gage that from one meeting during rush week.

thanks!

Kappa is the hot girls in the top tier, known for partying hard, but being kinda word-that-rhymes-with-which-y. I know only a few Pi Phis, but generally, they are considered to be towards the top of the tiered system. DGs also pretty hot, but very nice, sweet girls. AOPi, Tri-delts are kinda in the middle. Gamma Phi (not very pretty, sadly) is at the bottom tier, and Theta is too. Sigmas are the Asian sorority–kinda ditzy Asian girls trying to hard to be stereotypical blonde white girls.

lol…
nice description. very helpful if i ever need the info.

thank you! anyone else?

is there only one sorority for asians? or do asians have their separate rankings for their sororities?

Theres Sigma Omnicon Pi and Sigma Phi Omega. Of the people I know in those two sororities, I would say Sigma Phi Omega has better looking girls. Of course there are varying types of people with both

i love how the op asked for personality types and people answered with levels of physical attractiveness

All the sororities are great. It just depends on which one you fit into best. Don’t let anyone pressure you when you are making your decision. You’ll have fun no matter what!

what does the pledge period consist of? can you get kicked out at this time…?

volunteer work, being their *****, running around naked at an intersection…

hell yeah soul. haha

I just joined AXO, and I love it. I think the important thing to consider when rushing is who you get along with once you meet the girls. Don’t listen to what other people say about the houses, because they can be completely different on the inside. Being in AXO has completely changed my Berkeley experience, and I love all of the girls, but the other houses are great, too. You’ll end up where you’re supposed to be. Don’t worry.

From what I heard, all the sororities are really nice during pledge at Cal.

thanks! all of this has helped a lot. anyone else have more info? i want to join a sorority that is well respected and leaves ample time for studying, but still has nice girls and is active in the social scene…

How’s the greek life for guys?

Is it a vicious hazing cycle? How’s the life for the pledges in the Greeks?

And is it really that much harder to have a social life without joining a frat like some have told me? I find it hard to believe that.

Fornicating with a goat. Nuff said. haha

Is it harder? Well it’s certainly easier to have one, not to mention getting in to parties and actually knowing others there (speak from exp haha)

You can easily have a social life without joining a frat, but a frat does make it even easier. That’s not necessarily a good thing, though.

Calgirl–most sororities leave ample time for studying; living in a house where everything is taken care of, like a dorm, unlike an apartment, will also be useful. The pitfalls of living in a frat–constant games of beer pong, namely–are less dangerous in a sorority. Many sorority girls don’t study a lot due to their interests, but many others do. It doesn’t really matter which one you join.

^ It’s pretty much why I’m always on the precipice of joining a frat. I did a few rush events and when I checked out a frat’s website, I see that a majority of the guys are doing like poli sci, econ and all that good stuff that doesn’t involve science.

Anyone care to rate the frats?
