So can any former students tell me about Greenough-my new home next year. I'm in a double.

I’d also like some info on my dorm! ;D

I would like to know, too. I’m in a single on the first floor. :)

Although Greenough is not in the Yard (it is a “Union” dorm–there used to be a student union in the the faculty club building nearby), it has the advantage of being close to Lamont Library, in a pretty, safe area of campus/town. It is recently renovated, so the rooms have hardwood floors, a nice cream paint with pale grey wood trim. It is a quiet dorm, by location,–far from the bells of Memorial Church, and the traffic near Canaday. The east facing rooms have views of flowering trees in the small garden area behind. There is a great little grocery store around the corner on Broadway, the Broadway Market, which has delicious baked goods and a hot bar for breakfast and lunch. The Sackler and Fogg Art Museums are quite close, (although the Fogg is being renovated for the next four years.)

The only common space is a room in the basement, however there is also a laundry room so you will not have to leave the building. There is an elevator (!), as it used to be a private apartment building. It is not very close to Annenberg, so a fridge is a good idea for winter mornings when you don’t want to walk a distance to breakfast. It is very safe and secure as it is far from Harvard Square & there are no vagrants or tourists milling about.

While it is not in the thick of things in the Yard, it does provide a retreat and some privacy from the fish-bowl atmosphere of more central dorms, and is only a one minute walk to most classes. Pennypacker and Hurlbut dorms are nearby.

if you have a dorm in greenough anything like a girl that i know, it’ll be really small. her room was like a large closet. if you get along with your roommate, that’ll be great. but if not, it could get awkward. somewhere like stoughton with its bigger singles for two people are, in my biased opinion, better. and you’re not in the yard, obviously. you’re close to the kong, widener, lamont, berryline, and all that stuff though. its got its good and its bad just like any dorm. except stoughton. which is the best.
