Grinnell Turning Need Sensitive for Intl Students

Starting Class of 2010, Grinnell’s admission policy for international students will be need sensitive and not need blind as it used to be. I guess this means fewer number of admits, but more Financial Aid per admit. In 2005, 219 out of some 876 applicants were admitted to Grinnell, but only 48 enrolled; because financial aid in most cases covered only half tuition, and many of the admitted students could not afford to attend. The new admission policy will mean two things:

A much smaller number of students will be admitted, but all admission offers will be accompanied by adequate fin aid.

Those who can afford to meet all or most of the expenses will be admitted even if they are not exactly on top of the applicant pool.

Anyways, I personally feel it is always better to get rejected that get admitted and not be able to attend. At least, you won’t have to look at the luggage tag they send you and think, “I could have made use of this? if only I were richer”

So, does anyone out there think I’'ll get in? My stats look like this:

I am Indian and I am not too rich.

SAT: CR 620, M 680, W 700
Class Rank: top 10% (One of the best schools around here)
No GPA.
ICSE (Year 10 National Level Examination) Average 86.3
ISC (Year 12 National Level Examination) Expect about 91-92 (But results will be known only by May, and my school teachers aren?t very generous with the grades)

ISC Subjects are English, Math, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Can’t choose the difficulty of our courses, but I think their standards would be same as AP/IB HL courses.

Essay and Recommendations hopefully will turn out to be great

ECs:
Quiz Club (10,11,12)
Yoga (9,10,11,12)
Community service (9,10,11,12)

Grinnell has never been need-blind for intels, has it?

I believe till 2005, Grinnell never looked at an international applicant's financial status before making the admission decision. That's what need-blind means, right?

As far as i am concerened, there are only 6 schools whose need-blind admission policies extend to international students- Harvard, MIT, Middlebury, Princeton, Williams, Yale. But anyway, good luck to you!
