Forum for anyone waitlisted from 2021 RD
Hello all, obviously our situation is not ideal. However, hopefully this sadistic process works out for everyone!
Has anyone found the elusive waitlist response form? I can’t find it in my application status account as the letter indicates.
Unlike a lot of schools, Grinnell took a bunch of kids off their waitlist last year. 1,032 kids were waitlisted, 395 accepted places and 97 students were admitted. I don’t know if last yr was a fluke, but good luck, you have reason to be hopeful.
@Mom24boys Thank you for the information!
By the way, the waitlist response form did take a few minutes to appear, but has now. I’m guessing they like to assure that applicants view the decision letter before it is added to the portal.
@Mom24boys thanks for the well wishes!
@ColoredAlabaster I havent seen it yet, im assuming it’ll be up by monday, if not i plan to call admissions and ask
Hi! So for the waitlist response is it like a “why Grinnell should still accept me essay?”
@Seventyfivebc Nah, it’s literally just a “click the bubble to accept a position on the waitlist” type of thing.
The waitlist link is available on the status page
I made a groupme if anyone wants to join, it’s gonna be a wait but it’ll go faster if we arent alone! https://app.■■■■■■■■■■■/join_group/29752770/vdwKBd
Wait okay so when you accept the waitlist position it says yoi wont be informed until AFTER May 1? So basically you have to throw away almost any other acceptances for the possibility of acceptance at Grinnell?
@Raelte what you can do is accept an offer from another school for now (your 2nd choice probably) and then just wait. Some people don’t get notified until later in the summer. You’ll lose your deposit at the other school if you get accepted to Grinnell later, but it’s worth it!
It’s ok. Colleges know that a certain percentage of the students who accept their offers will take offers from the waitlist at other colleges after May 1st. It’s all part of the dance.
Once you’ve heard from all of your colleges, review your acceptances and make your decision from among those. Try to put the waitlist out of your mind while you do this and focus your attention on the sure things. Good luck to all of you!
Just found out I was waitlisted at Grinnell…
Better than rejection, but does anyone know if we will find out financial aid (need based) info only after we have been accepted from the waiting list? Grinnell is one of my top schools, but my ability to attend Grinnell is dependent on what kind of aid they can provide. Is my best bet to accept my safety school (University of Iowa) offer of admission and pay the non refundable deposit and wait and see what happens with the Grinnell waitlist and financial aid situation? Any advice appreciated!
@djones24 I’m in the same exact boat as you. I’m going to put in a deposit for U Iowa and hope for the best from Grinnell. I think we only find out about FA after acceptance, but I’m not 100% sure.
Is getting waitlisted generally a good sign in Grinnell or not?
So does anyone happen to know if you accept your place on the waiting list do you have to go to Grinnell if you end up getting in? Like is accepting a waiting list spot binding or not?
@djones24 No it’s not.
Waitlisted. Also waitlisted at Pepperdine yesterday.
Figure i’d drop my stats for c/o 2022 to refer to
Applied for PoliSci program
32 ACT (35E 33R 32S 28M)
3.68 UW gpa (no weighting offered)
AP : English Lit & Comp
EC: President of multiple clubs, competing at national level for BPA, decent amount of community service, founded multiple academic groups
Honors: Pioneered AP program (first student in school history to enroll in an AP course), attended selective politics program (50 KS students a year), other smaller awards
Essay: Explained the harsh grade drop during sophomore year (death of immediate family member) and how i recovered and found a deeper passion for learning
Extra notes: I didn’t turn in the “Why Grinnell” essay but did sign up for mailing list and took online tour
@djones24 Accepting a waitlist spot is not typically binding. But ASK THE COLLEGE DIRECTLY. Not strangers on the Internet.
