The School of General Studies has been trying to change its name for decades now. I thought this might be a good place to throw around some ideas.
Columbia Global
General studies really is such an unfortunate name. It’s akin to PA standing for Physician Assistant. It degrades the value that actually exists within the school and field.
Perhaps General Studies could be renamed: Columbia school of Earheart. That would maybe give it a bit of a historical feeling of prestige? I’m not sure.
school of liberal arts
Isaac Asimov School of Liberal Arts, my favorite alum. He was the greatest SF (which is a bit non-traditional in the classical novel genre) author, and I think he is well representing the value that gs has within.
Unless the estate of Isaac Asimov, or a devotee, donates serious cash, that’s not happening. The renaming of SEAS cost $26 million back in the day. Nowadays, naming rights are in the 9-figure range. c.f. NYU Tandon School of Engineering and David Geffen School of Drama at Yale
