Go Wesleyan :))))
Just in case, make sure to apply to Commonwealth Honors College at Umass. :)

Guidance counselor said I have no chance at top schools. Native American female artist w/ a 3.4 GPA?

Good news about UMass. Unless you have a strong preference for UConn and Ithaca, why don’t you cut back on the safeties and add some more high matches and reaches.?

@momrath I’m just afraid that not having visited or gotten interviewed will decrease my chances at high reaches.

you don’t need to visit. Email the dept in the field you’re interested in (and if they answer, refer to it in your “why us” essay), email admissions and ask to be put in touch with students with a similar profile as yours …

Ivies and Ivy-level universities don’t put too much weight on visits. Small LACs do, but they also understand that it’s not always possible. A compelling Why X essay will suffice. It’s not too late to interview; the RD admissions process is just beginning.

It’s hard to narrow in one or two additional reaches as your two ED choices are so different from each other in personality. If you like Cornell, you might like Dartmouth, Princeton, Williams, Hamilton. If you like Wesleyan you might like Brown, Haverford, Vassar.

Thanks @momrath! Wesleyan is completely booked for good: I emailed the admissions office. I can’t decide whether to apply EDII or RD… do you think EDII might increase my chances of admission?

Thanks @MYOS1634! Great idea.

In the absence of interviewing at a school, there’s nothing better in showing a school your love than applying ED. Applying ED2 will help your chances and will impart that show of interest. Additionally, restate your interest in writing that you wish to do an interview. Even if the school can’t fit you in, they’ll have on record that you did show the interest by requesting one.

@momrath: Northwestern definitely cares if you’ve visited (and pretty much expects Chicagoland kids to do so).

Then again, NU’s president did come from Williams . . .

Someone has most likely mentioned this before, but I would look at Clark University in Worcester, MA, especially if you are interested in psychology (the psychology dept. there has a long and storied history). It seems like it has a great student body and marvelous academics (many of its graduates attend top ranked graduate/professional schools like HMS, Stanford, LSE, Yale, Georgetown, etc) and if you maintain a certain GPA, you can stay at Clark for a fifth year free, and get a master’s. I really wanted to apply there, but I am already applying to way too many places.

I think EDII would increase your chances at Wesleyan, but I don’t know the figures. However, you should only apply EDII if it’s your true first choice. This especially true since you still have a shot at Cornell in the RD around.

@momrath Thanks I have decided that it is a better fit for me than Cornell. I will feel at home, surrounded by liberal, artsy, and intellectual students! ED2!!! :-bd

Well, your journey’s had quite a few twists and turns, but I’m glad that you’ve reached a destination that you’re comfortable with. If you like Wesleyan, I’d add Brown, Vassar, Haverford. I’d also strongly suggest that you add Smith.

Northeastern, yes or no?

@momrath Thank you! If I am not accepted, there is still a chance at Cornell. I was deferred from NU, but that’s a good thing considering I forgot to sign up for aid…

Also, writing more supps. is going to a be killer. My parents are getting annoyed with the app. fees too. :(

Hi - another vote for Clark. My younger son was accepted there with a really nice financial aid package. We really liked the students we met during accepted students day. He ended up not going to Clark but it was a very strong second choice for him. I haven’t read the whole thread but saw someone recommended Dartmouth - I agree with that suggestion as well

Apps are due 1/1 and my teachers need to add their rec’s on Naviance. I haven’t written supps yet and my last day of school before break is Tuesday :((

just list 15 schools you may be applying to - the teachers only write ONE letter so adding 4 or 14 apps won’t change anything. YOU don’t have to apply to all 15… this way you create some leeway/flexibility.

GUARANTEED TRANSFER TO CORNELL UNIVERSITY!!!
So how does that work?
Do you know your FA offer?
In any case, CONGRATULATIONS!!!
You must be so happy!!!
Once you’re done dancing, clapping, texting all your friends, eating ice cream with those closest to you, etc, etc, don’t forget to recap the rest of the saga… what admissions did you get?
