Guidance Towards Transferring - Much Appreciated

I am applying as a transfer student for fall 2015 with the regular deadline. Being that I am doing this under the radar, I am not confronting my parents about this until everything is set in stone. I am an adult, so I do not need their signature or anything of sort to actually apply. My issue arises with this portion of the application.

“An official copy of all of your college transcripts, sent directly from the registrar(s) of all former college(s). A final official transcript must also be sent upon completion of any courses in progress. The University of Maryland accepts transfer credits taken only from regionally accredited institutions. Maryland’s Transfer Credit Services will determine the acceptance of credit after the university extends an offer of admission.”

While I can personally receive my transcript from Virginia Tech, I do not know how to send it straight from the school to UMD. Does this mean I will have to talk to my counselor? I find this rather awkward, being that I am not 100% sure I will be leaving.

I really appreciate your guys help, this means a lot.

There should be an office of records at your campus where you would request the transcript to be sent to UMD. Why would it be awkward to talk to your counselor about transferring? That is one of the things they are there to assist with, and they ought to know your plans to help you as best they can.

Try to talk to your counselor to send the transcript straight from the school to UMD! Sending a transcript doesn’t mean that you will leave, it just means that it’s part of the application and if you get accepted, you can choose to leave after talking to your parents or you can choose to stay. It’s totally ok! If your college doesn’t send the transcript directly to umd, you can just get a transcript in a envelope stamped with your schools stamp and send to the umd admissions office yourself. Transferring to a college is another step in your life that many people go through and your counselor/parents will support you in every step of it! Good luck!

Check your student portal. Sometimes you can make this kind of request online.
