Guide for dummies to getting into UF

If they go towards your A.A, aren’t they considered dual enrollment. But it they are not dual enrollment, then yes they should count towards your GPA, which really helped me and boosted me above a 4.0. Having a 4.0 or above gives you about a 85% chance of acceptance.

your right. they are considered dual enrollment.
what does dual enrollment count for?
i’ve heard honors credit, ap credit. all sorts of things.

Dual Enrollment, AP, IB, and AICE are all weighted a full point by the University of Florida

Wow, okay. With all of those AP classes…I can easily have a 3.7 GPa from my 3.4 as of now right? Since UF calculates it differently? awesome :)

When recalculating your GPA, UF considers your 5 core subjects: Math, Science, Social Sciences, English, and Foriegn Language. Honors, Pre-IB, and Pre-AICE are given half s point weight towards your GPA. IB, AP, AICE; and Dual Enrollment are all given a full point of weight.

If I remember correctly, the average for incoming fall 200& students, it was a 4.1.

lol, geez

I started and finished my essay in a few hours, and I was accepted. My essay wasn’t special.

i was very borderline
but it wasn’t that i did the same essay over and over again, i just changed topics a few times. and then there was a lot of procrastination. and the person i asked to help edit it was busy a lot.

no shame.

What are the key things to make sure and incoporate in your essay? I think my topic is going to be my experiences in scouting and the values I’ve learned. In that, I’m going to discuss my eagle scout project and what in entailed. I feel this will let me display traits such as leadership, responsibility, and charity. Any thoughts you can give me would be appreciated.

From reading site, it seems that recommendations from teacher/counselor aren’t needed. Do they go primarily by ACT, GPA weig., Course Rigor, etc. Do they take ACT only. I currently have 32 (34 math/36 reading), and should be AP Schloar with Distinction. Did sports for 3 years, community service, traveling abroad with school, lived in Japan as exchange program, etc.

I plan to take ACT one more time. If you give them the application early in Oct. do you hear earlier? Also seems like a person needs a 33 to get into honors program.

Well, thanks for any input.

UF had some special overnights for UR students and gifted. How many get invited, basis, and how do they determine those asked to attehd the June program.

Collegesgirl, UF honors requires a 33 ACT just to be able to apply.

In regards to the June program, I believe that was based off PSAT scores.

What was the PSAT cut off?

Make sure you have a solid gpa
Make sure you are in the top 10% of your class (if your school ranks)
Make sure you have a solid SAT/ACT score
Make sure you have a solid essay
Apply before the deadline
Make sure you have a solid senior class schedule (APs, IBs, Dual Enrollment)
Make sure you have balanced ECs and classes (NHS is a good one to start with)

If you are 6’6", run the 40 yard dash in 4.2, and throw the footbal 75 yards - you have a good chance of being admitted.

Do they count IB SL and IB HL differently?

Show interest preferably on their Facebook website message them from the summer. I did that they stayed in contact even said they were crossing their hands for me since I contacted them, I think it helped me a lot

This is an old thread, so please start a new one with any questions you may have! :)

UF treats pre-IB classes as honor classes for determining HS weighted GPA (+0.5 points vs. +1.0 points for IB classes). To earn credit at UF, you have to score a 4 or higher on the SL or HL classes:

<a href=“Exam Credit < University of Florida”>https://catalog.ufl.edu/ugrad/current/advising/info/IB-examination-credit-info.aspx

Otherwise, not much of a difference. UF does like to see that you took a rigorous class load…

Essay is the most important factor without a doubt. Many kids at my high school (including IB kids) didn’t get into UF this year. I have a 4.0 weighted and got in and kids with 4.3s didn’t. My essay was extremely creative and I undoubtedly think that was what set me apart from the rest of my peers.

@gtownbound‌ what was your essay about?
