Guide paradise, SAT Guide 2400

My friend said he critically read this guide with the blue book for 2 months and memorized the vocab and raised from a 193 Psat to a 2350 Sat. He is now a UCLA freshman. Do u think I could expect to get a boost this large?

Calling all SAT people who scored 2200+!!
please do not copy, sell, or redistribute. Read it from the board.

bump !!!!!!!

do u mean by reading this guide?

yes of course

Not a bad quick review guide... but not good for complete studying. The guide covers the basics. I think it will get people a bit higher but not much. Also, the word list is copied off Sparknotes.

I disagree with just about everything it says about Critical Reading. I do it my way and always finish the section with at least 5-10 minutes to spare. 800 CR on October Test.

I'd prefer the vocab list to be organized into blocks of synonyms/related words -- easier visual memorization. I suppose it's an all right list if you're running out of study time.

I found the Writing to be pretty well done. Then again, there isn't much you can do differently about writing.

do you think it could get someone like me the boost it gave my friend? Is writing easy? I havent studied for it and get around 500's. Will memorizing this writing guide give me a 700-750+?

Memorizing the guide for grammar will, in my opinion, probably get you squat. Knowing the rules won't help you; it's being able to recognize them quickly. Remember, the SATs have a time factor. It's practice questions you need to do. Honestly, I don't think it takes too long -- a week, tops -- in getting used to the types of questions asked.

I scanned some writing worksheets from a class over the Summer a while ago and posted a link from photobucket. You're welcome to them if you can find the thread.

As for the essays, there's a variety of prompts, and I'll be happy to grade some practice ones for you if you pm them to me. Haha, in those "guess my score" threads, I'm...within reasonable range to actual scores. It won't be exact.

Now, just becoz ur friend got a good score by that doesn't at all means that u will get too! U two don't have the same brain! (sorry 4 being sarcastic). What I just suggest u is to go thru that whole thing and then take a real test from BB "TIMED" and at 8.30 am! That'll tell u how much u've improved by that. Writing is a bit tricky, u just need to know what sort of mistakes they COMMONLY put in the questions. See, everything has got pattern.

so for writing mc, knowing the rules inside-out will or will not help my score? im aiming for 750+

Um. It will somewhat. But doing practice tests for writing to get familiar with the common mistakes will probably get you further.

Taggart... quick question.

Did you get the writing worksheets (<a href="http://s102.photobucket.com/albums/m90/pattyluluz/SAT%20Writing/%5B/url%5D">http://s102.photobucket.com/albums/m90/pattyluluz/SAT%20Writing/</a>) from the same source you got the other ones for CR and math? Because if they are, I won't have to worry about them since it seems they were copied from McGraw Hills SAT book.

I read Princeton Review's Crash Course in SAT =P 100 pages, the size novella and way less stressful =P I don't really think you need to memorise all the words. Have a read through the roots and you should be able to recognise the general meaning of most words. I still got 800 CR =P So not memorisng 300 pages of vocab didn't hurt me =P

haha, if that is the case, can anyone post the roots up with their definition. hey changeling, how many roots will be a good amount to study? thanks

taggart, what exactly is "your way?" do you have a particular strategy while taking the test?

Yeah Taggart, what's your "way" of doing the CR section? CR has always been my strong point, but unfortunately, I've never gotten a perfect score on it. :/
