Ever since I started going on this website, I've seen a few people mention this book for AP World History and that it's somewhat helpful. So, I finally just got it from the public library.

What do you guys think about this book and how helpful is it for AP World in your opinion?

OH MY GOODNESS JARED DIAMOND ASDFJKL
Sorry.
Anyway.
Well, we’ve touched on his ideas and watched the movie, and so, though I have not read the book, I am able to speak on behalf of the topic.
His idea is literally that the better stuff you have the better you do. That’s really it. The main question he wants to answer in one part is, “Why do them white men have so much cargo?” He’s kind of a joke at my school. His entire theory is based on the attainability and presence of resources.

Personally, I don’t find the movie version he made or his ideas particularly helpful to what we’re learning besides as another representation or viewpoint, though they are occasionally amusing XD

This is the first time I have ever heard of anybody voluntarily reading that book, aside from my AP World teacher. It was mandatory summer reading for my AP World class last year. His overall information is somewhat interesting and thought provoking, but he takes hundreds of pages to say what he could have said in 10, or maybe even less. I didn’t like it, and honestly couldn’t tell you if it helped me or not, but it did have connections to what we learned in AP World so I guess that counts for something (even though I only skimmed it…and out of what I skimmed, it was only 20 pages).
