Guns

I think I am sure of the answer on this one but thought I'd check to make sure:

Are cadets allowed guns on campus? I am not talking here about the rifle team. How about airsoft or paintball? Skeet?

I believe that cadets are allowed to have guns, just not in the dorms. I think there is a club that stores cadet firearms in a special location.

This is for USAFA, I don't know about the other academies.

At West Point cadets have to check their fire arms into the armory.

I'm on the small arms club at USAFA. The club has its own mini-armory, secured by the security forces squadron. Most of the guys who have personal firearms store them at a locker off base (right outside the North Gate).

I am a gun owner myself, but can you please tell me why would you need to bring a personal firearm with you to the Academy. What ligitimate reason is there that would require the need. There are some shooting sports they have which if you participate in would justify that need. However just to bring a rifle or pistol with you just because you have one confuses me.

^^^

So that you can shoot when you want to in your off time.

So that you can keep your marksmanship skills up while at the Academy.

I don't know about the other Academies, but at USNA I am told that unless you are on a shooting team or club, after Weapons Quals during Plebe Summer, for the next four years there is zero range time in the training ciriculum.

Yes, unless you are on the the rifle team or in the small arms club (which is just getting started), you will be lucky to shoot more than once a year...if that. For official training, I have shot once in almost two years.

Some cadets will go to a range off base some weekends. Others go hunting (there is a club for that, as well).

Raimius and Steve, you are echoing my S's idea... he doesn't want to practice just once or twice a year, but isn't really qualified for a rifle team - club, maybe.

Thanks to all.
